OEM Tires (Goodyear SR-A)

I have a set of these tires on my brand new SLT, so I plan to share this thread with my GMC dealer. What signs should I be looking for this winter when it snows? I thought I was buying a snow beater. Are these tires useless in the snow?

P.s. No tires except maybe Blizzaks are worth a darn on ice.

I've decided I'm go to leave the SR-A's on and find out how they are in the snow.

(on the last truck i drove directly from the dealer to the tire guy to swap them out)

Hi all,

I'm planning a trip 10 hr south to the desert. First stop Death Valley. We are going to see the "Super Bloom". It's when the desert floor is covered in wild flowers from rains that seldom occur. Then we will drive 4hr of paved back roads to Joshua tree for more park camping/wheeling.

I'll be taking my truck wheeling and I think I'll be putting these tires to the test.lol I'll be loaded with 500-700# of camping gear my pregnant wife and 2 year old son.

The recommendation is not to use street tires when off reading in the desert. Total miles actually off -road is approximately 50 miles.

I'm glad we will have a spare after reading all these post!

I'll come back and tell you what I think of these tires after our trip.

They have 4400 miles on em now. My only complaint now is that they vibrate when going over bumps on our city roads.. Other than that, they are smooth on hwys which is 35% of my driving.

To me, a truck is not a truck without LT tires. If your tires have a P anywhere in the size, they are made for cars.

Too bad high end GM's can't be ordered wit Lt's

Adster - I'm also in Saskatoon. How you liking the SR-A in this weather. Yours are still new so they should still be OK. Mine were decent last year with only a couple thousand on the clock. This year, it's a little different story.

SW Sask here guys

You can still get LT1 spec trucks with LT tires, they are bridgestone duellers, but only a 6 ply at that. GM in their infinite wisdom uses the excuse that they choose tire suppliers based on best fuel economy potential. I think it's BS and all a matter of supplied by the lowest bidder.

Well that is just a load of false information... A P-rated BFG KO is not made for a car, nor is the load limit on each tire. To each their own but that is just false information. An LT tire is great if you plan on actually towing and hauling or regularly heading off road, but for most folks and scenarios nope, a P-rated works great, rides better, saves gas, is cheaper and is plenty tough for the mean streets and dirt roads.

You won't have any problem unless it rains. The SRA's do suck but the Auto 4wd setting generally more than makes up for their lack of traction when you need it. I decided to wait until I trashed them to upgrade and have been 100's of miles offroad and light duty towing. 100 mile trips off road in Moab, towing a raft trailer across the west, towing a small camper through the mountains, rock strewn roads over the continental divide in CO camping, never had to change a tire. after 25k I have a leak in the outer part of the tread that can't be fixed so now I'm about done, but I got a year and half out of them. Couldn't believe it when I found out I couldn't just swap the spare since the rims are different sizes. Weird stuff they cut corners on. Think I'm going to the KO2's next and would never willingly buy the SRA's, but I think for most people with normal use they can get by ok.

Just because the rims are different size, the spare still works. It's the aspect ratio. A 55 tire on a 20 inch rim is the same as a 70 tire on a 17 which is the spare. You just don't want to use the 4wd function. That's what really sucks.

I just had a puncture in my SRA's from some piece of metal in the road. Not repairable. They were decent enough tires at the time. Used them in a good amount of snow and ice in the mountains and didn't feel like they were gonna let me down. But no way was I going to get 55,000 miles out of them that they claim. 16,000 miles and already used half the tread life. Upgraded to KO2's instead of replacing just 2 tires.

Auto 4WD doesn't help you stopping etc in the rain/snow

Great I'm feeling better about our trip. Keep them rolling til they are toast is my idea as well.

These tires have a 112 rating 2469# per tire. Supposed to be more than adiquete.

I've already over loaded this truck with these tires once and blew a shock. Tires held up. Now normally I ride with my tires at 35 psi around town empty. Would I increase pressure loaded? I noticed that they can be air up to 51psi? Now of course wheeling people like to air down. But what about it with loaded? Stay 35 psi gravel roads desert/hwy?

Yeah, i meant swap the tire as in use the rubber to replace the bad tire, ie. swap the rubber between the rims, and just use the crap one for a spare.

RE LT's

If you drove from Toronto to north of Nakina on a moose hunt and shredded 4 brand new OEM P rated tires on gravel in two days, you would never own a truck with P rated tires.

I have even had new P rated tires pick up a piece of slate on the Alaska highway and wear right through a P rated tire

a bunch of camping gear isn't really loaded down, I would just leave them.

I take our firewood. I'll weigh it this time. Along with rest of the gear. I got this truck cause my 4 banger taco was so slow with all our gear. Not to mention we where riding like sardines.

Thanks y'all, Im over thinking it. Reading to many post about how crappy a tire they are. These are nice compared to oem continentals. Which I gave away and bought new tires for my old truck with no miles hardly. Not this time.

I'm happy to wear these tires out and dream of some killer all terrains next year:)
