You should be just fine with them, just drive smart in really rocky areas ans watch for the sharp rocks. I get a new work truck every few years and to save money the quit letting us put on AT LT tires the day we pick it up from the dealer. My present work truck came with Hankook P rated 235's on 17 inch rims. Took that truck to all the nasty places that most never go and never once had a problem out of them. They were shot at 25k miles so I put on a set of Goodyear AT Kevlar LT in a 265 size. My mpg's went from near 20 (Ford 5.0V8) to 17 (interstate driving) and that is with the corrected speedo. Shows you what a heavier and bigger LT tire will do to your mpg's!

Yep, being with family and new truck I'll be crawling on the technicals and watching out for the sharp stuff. Don't wanna make Prego wife nervous on this trip. I've had her clutching the oh shit handles on past trips. Screaming and such, I love it. I must refrain this time on the antics.

 

What makes this tire considered all terrain is the wider spacing between tread. It is all terrain. It's just light weight and built knowing most driving will be on the paved roads.

I noticed these tires cost more than the hankooks. I have used two sets of hankooks on my old truck. They Last way longer than ko's at almost half the price. This from my past job where I had to drive 4 miles on knarly road with a 700ft elevation gain. This route Seemed to chew on any tire.

 

Tires I've used on previous trucks Yokohama geo lander( expensive from what remember)

Firestone destination. Lasted long time, I think.

Bridgestone all terrain great tire just seemed to wear quickly

Hankook atm. Cheap and worked well.

Goodyear sr-a Working great so far. Sidewall seems like jello. About to put the SR-A tires to the off road test!

Took my girls 2014 as well with 9K miles on her SRAs and put Ko2s on hers.

GM and Goodyear should be ashamed of the junk SR-A's they put on these trucks! I have 25000 miles on my truck and all four tires have plugs/patches in them. This morning I woke up to yet another flat tire. Tire store said they couldn't fix it (too many previous repairs already on that tire). These tires are a joke. I have driven mainly all highway miles with very little towing, off road or gravel. Even though I wish I could have, there wasn't any way I could afford to replace all four right now, so reluctantly I had to buy someone else's junk SR-A factory take off. There is no excuse for junk four ply passenger car tires on a $40K plus truck.

Here's my deal. I recognize the GS-A's are low end, but soft riding and efficient rollers. Great for demo'ing our trucks. I dont choose to take it out and spend $1500 day 2 to level and put BFGs on it.

 

Something more moderate will suffice. Stock size. (I'm 57 and have 2 kids in college.)

 

What are anyone's thoughts about Firestone Destination AT? I've had a couple sets of Revo's, they didn't last. Ditto the Michelin LTX MS2 I had on my tundra. Both performed well for 35000 miles. Tire Rack ratings for the Firestone are incredible...

My past experience w/ them on an F150 were very good. 30k miles when traded in, and probably half worn. Decent off road and in the snow, and good wearing. When my SR-As wear out, that's what's going on my truck next.

There is no need for an LT E-rated tire on a half ton truck (E-rated are most common in our truck sizes, I personally would love a C-rated tire but they seem few and far between).

 

PS, they aren't junk, just a lower mid level factory tire that accomplishes what mostly likely is most owners who buy this truck need. Just because they don't fit your needs or image doesn't make them junk. Plenty of people are happy with them and many just satisfied until they can upgrade sizes or styles. Sorry they didn't work for you but that doesn't speak for all...

Pretty much this. As far as the SR-A's are concerned, zero issue with mine or my fathers on the Silverado's. They see a fair amount of grid roads and have been wearing pretty good. He went 80,000 km's on his and they still had some tread left. Mine have 25k and still are still a long long long ways from needing replacement. No issues with them in the winter to note, got stuck once but that was from actually being held up on a hard drift and the tires not having really any contact with the ground. They do however seem to retain a lot of pebbles in the grips and that would be really the only real gripe I have with them.

Everyone has an individual need. I need the confidence that I have a tire that will safely handle my daily travels in all (US Southeast) weather conditions. The GS-As didn't provide that but not because I had a poor impression in the 1400 miles I drove them. Rolling resistance (efficiency) was important too though.

 

I purchased a stock size Bridgestone Dueler Allenza Plus shoes. Not QUITE as quiet, but ZERO sacrifice in mpg from these tires. I've run them before on my 1/2 ton truck and currently run them on wife's and daughters 4Runners. Very nice performing truck tire, albeit a highway tire.

 

Interestingly, they mistakenly installed (and priced) the Dueler Allenzas - not the "Plus" - and I ran them for a day while they got the upgrade into stock. The regular Alenzas tanked my mileage.

 

Anyway. I swapped. GMC not the only to adopt this strategy.

The SRA is practically a car tire. They are so cheaply made and light that they cause all of the negative attributes of the drive, especially the 20" size. I kept mine For 500km then went to an E load AT tire. Problems solved. I wouldnt put the SRA on a golf cart.

Idk im obviouslyin the minority here but the tire is what it is. It has served its purpose for me in getting me around town and up n down the highway safely.

 

I live in Montana, its basically winter weather for 4 months and will snow at any time for another 3 months. I bought my truck last May and I had no issues with these tires in the snow. Are they snow tires, no, but i wasnt slipping n sliding at all. May be the way i drive vs how you guys drive idk.

 

Am I upgrading tires, yes but I wouldnt bash these. Highway ride is very smooth and quiet for me.

 

 

 

As for the OP, my understanding of listing itas All-Terrain option is, its an optional feature should you choose to add on. So what im gathering is you didnt request the all terrain tire so that option was not added and you get the SR-A

just had 2 wrangler good years sr-a's replace because they where out of spec and causing vibration actually had the tech tell me these tires are garbage and nothing but complaints/issues with them. while i was there i told them about this issue how gm's calling SR-A a AT tire so they pulled up my build sheet and it only says AT but no specific tire listed. i also checked my window sticker and my truck was supposed to have "all terrains" that i paid extra for "all star edition" but instead has this crappy all season highway tire not sure if they are going to help me out or not but i was told to call GM and get on them about it they did try and look up to see if there was a bulletin on this F-up but nothing
