Ignition Key Shifter Interference

Why, oh why are we still using keys to start the truck?.. Smart fob and push button please.

For anyone who had this TSB done can you tell me what the process was of getting the new keys?

Haven't done it, but I'm sure all you do is go by the dealer and order them. They just go off your VIN.

and if they let you keep your old ones...

I don't see why they wouldn't let you keep the old one. I don't keep or put my steering wheel all the way so I'm not worried about it. I even like the original design better.

I honestly wouldn't do it unless it actually effects you. I know some people just want it done since they get 2 free keys, but it's only a small % (probably way less then 1%) that actually need it done.

Thank you for posting this. It does affect me as sometimes I am in and out of the truck a lot and leave the tilt up. It took asking on here to figure out why my truck kept dying.

I asked GM Canada about this today and they had no idea what I was talking about. I will bring a picture of this article tomorrow and see if I can get new keys. They can have the old ones back , I don't need. Ore than two keys anyway.

Wish me luck. :)

Well I was told there was no such thing but when I gave the service advisor the service bulletin number it popped up. My new keys will be in on Monday. Why was it so hard to find though? If I didn't have the bulletin number not even GM Canada could find it ( or claim not to anyway)

Thank you once again for the info!

Well I can assure you the TSB exists. I had my keys replaced a few weeks ago.

They let me keep the original ones. But I did indeed get two new replacement keys. Took a few weeks to get them in, but once they did it took them 15 mins to program the chips to the truck.

No more hitting the collumn shifter. New key feels nicer too. Not as sharp of edges on it.

How about this key related issue - With the truck off and leaving key in the ignition, it normally dings when the door is open. But sometimes on mine when I close the door, it continues to ding. So then I open up and re-close the door, the ding stops. Occurs maybe once a month or two. Anyone else here have this issue?

My dealer would only give me one of the new style keys. Oh well, that is all I need I guess.

As far as the dinging in the last post, mine does that once in awhile too.
