Ignition Key Shifter Interference

Recommended Posts

I just saw a news article on Consumer Reports saying the GM is issuing new keys to 2014/2015 Silverado and Sierra owners on request (under warranty) as part of TSB 14-00-89-005 . According to the article, if the steering column is tilted fully up, the shifter could contact the key when shifting out of park.

I'm not sure its worth asking for a new rounded key for this, but I haven't seen any discussing on here about it, so thought it would be worth posting.

Since I don't keep mine tilted all the way up I'm not worried about it. If you do or if you're a big person and have to tilt it all the way up to get in or out then the recall needs to be done obviously.

There are a couple of threads about this, but here's the first one I found...it is also mentioned in Sandyblogs

Mine is the old style and haven't had an issue with it. Had a loaner that had the new style. Mentioned it to service manager. He said if I want the new style, they would do it for me. I just left it open for now since I am not having issues.

I wonder if they let you keep the old keys for spares

I have the old ones and no issues. Then again I don't tilt my steering wheel up ever.

This is not a recall just a TSB. It's really only for the people having the issue. The TSB just tells the dealer how to fix it.

I've had this issue on my truck. I tilt the column up when I got to get out. Sometimes I don't always tilt it down before I shift into gear. Hits the damn key.

I just called my guy at the dealership to start the process of getting thew new keys.

Part of me wonders how hard it will be to retro the fob starting system into the truck or if it is even possible.
