I just purchased a 2015 Silverado that came with 3G of data. My daughter used her iPad for approximately 3-4 hours on a trip and exhausted the data. How is that possible?

streaming video will chow that much data... netflix, youtube... and the faster your connection, the higher quality stream they will send you eating lots of data!

I just noticed my time and date were way off. As I was setting them I noticed it was on automatic cell network, which I'm assuming draws data to keep contact with network to keep date and time correct. I figure this because my time and date were correct until I ran out of data. Needless to say I put it on setting time manually.

I wasn't aware of this so I'm thinking this wifi thing isn't for me if it's just gonna last one outing with my daughter.

others have posted about it and I will be having this problem myself when I get my 15... but others have said way cheaper/better to just get a wifi hotspot on your cell phone carrier. I will def be looking into it when I get my truck, wifi sounds nice but I can only imagine what onstar charges.

The 'data calculator' on the onstar site suggests that 3-4 hours of video streaming should have been closer to 1 GB.

We have tracked data used on phone plans when used as hotspots on several occasions and I'm surprised that your 3gb would be used up that quick.

They had the option to order the hot spot with the 14, but I couldn't see a reason why since my cell phones for the last 8 years (top phones with top carriers anyways) have been able to do hot spots that travel with me. Now if I could only find a way to stream a movie to my phone and have it play on the MyLink, I'd be golden.

Change the calculator to high definition and it kills the data?

It isn't your phone, you just add a line to your account and it is the hotspot

More everything plans with Verizon let you use your cell phone as a personal hotspot for no additional fees. Works great with iPhones. You can burn through data quickly too though.

I don't download HD movies on my phone either, for the same reason.

Yep. I use it for work *sparingly* (this is my personal phone after all) if I need to retrieve documents from our network at a site that doesn't have guest wifi.
