Is there any difference between airaid jr & mit

That's the only difference, the JR kit just comes with a drop in filter for the stock filter box. I plan on getting just the MIT tube since they make paper filters that last a lot longer than they used to.

When installing did u disconnect the negative ike it says in the instructions? What is the reason for this, not taking the sensor out for the jr right??

No any automotive installation always has this step because of frivolous lawsuits and such. Simply unbolt and hook up new

This is done to reset the PCM. The PCM learns the engines parameters and your driving style over several miles. The engines air flow intake will be changed with a MIT.

Actually not really as far as the airflow rates go. The air flow rates are already in a table, resetting the ECM will just reset the short term and long term fuel trims and some of the adaptive transmission parameters.

The ECM gets the air flow rates by heating up an element in the MAF then using a calculation based off of how much energy it takes to keep the element heated to a certain temp.

The stock tune will adapt over time to some extent but obviously you will see more gains with bolt on mods and a proper tune.

I wouldn't worry about cycling the ECU off to reset it for something like this.

I would strongly recommend the airaid brand filter.

why? not being a smart ass, just genuinely curious. i've always run K&N even with other companies intake kits.

I have no problem answering that question. I sold pretty much every brand on CAI's from chinese make your own kits to AEM brute force exposed filter to K&N to Airaid to Volant fully enclosed. I sold them new as well as took trade-ins towards new purchase. I always tried to match the kit to fit each customers wants, needs, application, and most importantly budget. I looked at filter design, intake tube design, throttle body mounting postion, additional spacers, and documented results. After 5 yrs I found the Airaid stood the test as a demo unit to prove the theory of CAI to improve torque/hp/mpg. Most importantly it was the only one that did not deterioate(Chinese), collapse(FRAM), disform(K&N) or allow debris through(K&N). I have tried K&N on and off road, in all cases I have found sand or small particles down further down stream. The cheaper stuff I have seen chipped diesels suck them from a flat rectangle to a balled cylinder shape up intake tube. The K&N was almost always found to have crumbled pleats after moderate usage. I had one Airaid kit as my personal test piece and demo/loaner for new customers and after 5 years, over 160k km or 100k miles with zero maintenance it was very dirty on the outside, absolute zero signs of discolour/debris inside, no distortion, zero dried/cracked rubber, etc... I still have the new replacement sitting in the box.

To go further when it came to tech support the Airaid guys could defend their filters, tubes, kits, and spacers with actual facts and test sheets. I will admit the fit/finish took a while to deal with for paint flake and trim, but I think that has improved over past 10 years.

Example:

GM 5.3L standard emission legal kit (totally off my memory here)

K&N standard kit +10hp +10lb-ft

Airaid standard kit +12hp +10lb-ft

difference which most don't know

K&N @ 3500rpm +0hp +0lb-ft

Airaid @2500rpm +10hp +10lb-ft

I put in an MIT yesterday on my 2011 4.8 Silverado yesterday. I've got an AFE Dry filter on the way. My exhaust is stock with a custom made 24" glass and steel packed resonator style muffler. It's quiet with nice low rumble at idle and a very gutsy roar on acceleration. More low and high end.
