LED bulb for 3rd brake light

Any issues with simply swapping the third brake light bulb with an LED bulb?

Does the computer care? Does it mess with cruise control, etc.?

Maybe this has been talked somewhere else but I couldn't find it.

Thanks

Why would it effect the cruise?

Some cars have issues with all led bulbs because there isn't enough resistance to trigger the flasher.

This can be fixed by adding a resistor after the bulb.

I would not hesitate to change out the 3rd break light. I would be watchful for issue if replacing all lights.

I had a buddy who owned a truck where he swapped out the third brake light bulb for an LED and the cruise stopped working. It turns out that the cruise used the third brake light circuit to disengage the cruise when you step on the brake. Because LED are not like an incandescent bulb and the truck couldn't determine if the bulb was working it disabled the cruise.

I guess I can try it and then take it for a ride

That's because he isn't on the brakes, what you see is the parking lights...

^^ I've changed all my reverse, cargo and license plate with led. Wondering what bulbs you used for brakes and turns? Which resistors?

This was when I unlocked the truck at night.

Did you use LEDs for the taillights? What kind? Did you need a resistor to make the turn signals work properly?

I bought these for my brake/turn lights. Unfortunately, I havent installed them yet as it has been to damn cold, and I dont have a big enough garage.

BTW, you will need resistors for brake/turn lights.

I know this wasn't any help for ya, but hopefully I'll be able to get them in soon.

I am thinking of installing these Philips 7443 LEDs they are the only street legal LEDs http://www.usa.philips.com/c-m-li/vision-led

I already have the Philips LEDs in my reverse and license plate. The reverse are so much more effective than the normal 921 LED style I originally tried. Philips LEDs face the reflector in the housing and actually project more light from the reverse lights. Here is a review for the taillight 7443 LED on a Honda Accord https://www.xenondepot.com/accord-led-bulb-review-s/11.htm

You can switch out the 3rd brake light to an LED without issue. I have had an LED in mine with no issues for a few months now

Here's what I used:

To test I went ahead and plugged the light in and let the 3rd brake light hang down and I looked through the back window and applied the brakes. Looked very bright even through the tinted window in the middle of the day.
