Cruise Control not working

I have on '05 Suburban Z71 1500. My cruise control stopped working so I replaced the stop lamp switch. This didn't help and all fuses are working. I did replace my taillights to L.E.D. lights (not sure if that has anything to do with it). Any thoughts before I spend hundreds of dollars at the dealer or just go on long drives without cruise?

The first thing I'd probably do is stop at an auto parts store that has a code reader and just for the heck of it see if there are any codes. Did the cruise stop working at the same time you had the L.E.D. lights installed or sometime shortly afterwards? I'd be inclined to suspect something with the L.E.D's if it happened around the same time. Maybe a ground or incorrect connection issue, the cruise circuit thinks the brake lights are on etc., causing the cruise not to work?? Do the L.E.D's work properly? I.E. the running lights work as normal, the turn signals work as normal, the brake lights work as normal?

Do you get any indication that cruise is on? On my 2010, there is a light in one of the buttons on the steering wheel controls that is lit up when cruise is on. I don't mean cruise is activated, just that it can be activated.

The bulbs are not going to affect the cruise control. If you want to throw some money at it try the multi-function switch. Do you know how to read a schematic? Own a multimeter?

Ty I was gonna say the same thing but "I'm a smart ass" !!!

Don't forget op , there is only a couple of computers that give you cruise control ,

Back yard wrenching days are over folks , just sayin !!!

Happy new year !!! Lmao

You guys should try and throw a set of LEDs into "CK" style sockets and see the havoc they can create with the BCM. The easiest and cheapest way to check is to put the regular bulbs back in and see if that corrects the cruise issue. If not then the original poster will have to go deeper, check all of the fuses for the Cruise and Brake lights including the Center High Mount Stop Lamp. That's about as far as you can go without a wiring diagram, digital multi-meter and proper scan tool.... just sayin'

I have factory LEDs in my Toyota and my cruise works fine ....

I'm skeptical about LEDs messing up cruise , get technical with me , I can handle it ,

In the column have you checked all the wiring that lead to and from the switch? If I remember right, there should be two orange wires in that area that tend to break.

I have no light on the dash when the cruise switch is turned on. All lights function as normal (brake, tail and turn). However, before I installed these lights the high mount stop did not work (I figured just burned out bulbs and cruise worked then). This did happen (or at least I noticed) cruise not working shortly after l.e.d.'s were installed. I will put back old tail lights to see if cruise works again. If they do work again (these were $300 l.e.d. taillights), how can I fix this to still use my new lights? Thanks for all of your guys' help.

I do know how to read a schematic but do not own a multimeter. My father-in-law probably does. What is this multi-function switch you speak of?

The multi-function switch is the turn signal stalk on your steering column.

You have FACTORY LEDs in your Toyota, I have AFTERMARKET LED taillights (Anzo) in my '13 HD, and they also work without a problem. Usually replacement LED taillight assemblies are correctly wired for the vehicle they are listed for. For those who do not replace the whole assembly and only choose to use, for example only, Pilot brand LED bulb replacements that they now sell at Auto Zone or WalMart (at least in my area), they do not always work correctly or sometimes worse, create problems in the lighting circuit. Check this link out, http://www.superbrightbulbs.com/3157_led_selection_troubleshooting.html It's one of many that explains the issues that using the wrong type of bulb in your vehicle can create. I am not condemning the Pilot brand, I only use them as an example because they've become more widely available in my area

As for the Original Posters problem, I see that you had replaced the tail light assemblies, so this may not be the issue, and you may have another problem such as a broken wire, faulty switch or even a corroded or faulty fuse. It is possible for a fuse to go bad, but not look like it's blown (usually indicated by a voltage drop across the fuse) You may want to start with checking the center high mount stop lamp issue. If I remember right, the cruise control module gets it CANCEL signal from that circuit. It may very well be just burned out bulbs, but if you have a short in the light blue wire in that circuit , it will cause an issue with your cruise. I have also seen a short in the trailer 7 way connector ( if equipped with one ) back feed and cause problems with cruise circuits. Start with the basics, double check your fuses (check that the voltage is the same on both sides using a multimeter) A word of caution, don't go poking around the wiring harness with a standard TEST LIGHT, if you hit the wrong wire, it can cause damage to the electronics. You can usually pick up a decent, low impedance digital muli meter at Radio Shack, Home Depot, Lowes, WalMart, Harbor Freight, etc. Check the brake lamp switch for proper adjustment. And get your hands ( or computer) on the proper repair manual for your vehicle. For example AlldataDIY.com will give you access to fairly complete trouble shooting guides for your vehicle. And if you are pretty handy, would pay for itself the first time you use it. Just my opinion.

Thanks for all your help/ideas. I will try the easy steps first and let you know. I stopped at autozone today and they said no codes were showing up. The l.e.d. assemblies I put on were Spyder brand and I assume they were designed well as they work correctly. To '06SierraZ71...if I can't find the easy problem, what am I looking for on the multi-function switch? I am not illiterate, however I wouldn't consider myself a backyard mechanic either. Usually YouTube does the trick on helping me fix things. I rebuilt the 396 to my '68 Chevelle, but then again that was simple...you drop a wrench it went to the ground and nothing was computerized.
