Brakes blew out

So I was sliding in the snow and I held the pedal to the floor. I didn't feel the anti lock pressure on the pedal. It was a super slow skid, like 2mph and the truck turned sideways. I did stop a foot away from the car in front of me. When I got going again the pedal went to the floor, smoke came out of the driver side wheel well. It's not a line, the leak comes from behind a plastic cover on the firewall, below the master cylinder, close to the exhaust manifold. I was on my way out of town, can anyone help me trouble shoot this so I can fix it when I get home? Long first post, thanks in advance.
That's a 2002 Sierra Denali, quadrasteer.

I can't picture the problem area you speak of. Can you take a pic and point out the where you see the leak? My initial thought would be the master cylinder is leaking.

My 03 Silverado did the same thing coming home from work. Was turning left into our road and traffic was approaching so I decided to stop instead of cutting in front of two motorcycles. When I pressed the pedal down enough to stop, it went to the floor. Went right past my turn, straight. I was like, WTF? I knew something was wrong. Went to the next street and slowed and the rears locked up good. No front brakes. Pulled into my drive way and looked under the hood. Just like you described, as I the pedal went the floor a mist came from under hood and wheel well left front. Wouldn't you know, brake (hard line) rotted through and blew out. Glad no one was in front of me or I would have plowed right into them. I would have done my self on install of new brake lines (hard lines) but my back was screwed up at the time, so no getting under the front for me. My mechanic charged $900 for parts and labor. More labor like 8 hours worth and he lost on that. He charged me for 8 but spent more like 10 on it. The brake lines as I have heard are a problem on these trucks in the 99 thru 2007 models but GM does not recall them. Serious problem if someone gets killed. When I got the hard lines replaced, and my back was better, I replaced all flex lines and put new calipers since rears were in sad shape anyway. You can't put a price on feeling safe. Besides, the calipers are cheap from NAPA compared with some other OEM brand types. Good luck and get the hard lines looked at.

Yep, it was a brake line rotted out, front fright. Bought the kit from the local dealer for $107. Replaced all but the rear line, I will do that one after it warms up. It seems to be ok. Took about 6 hours, did not need to jack up the cab, but a second set of hands was need to get the right front fished thru. I did that one first, fed the two lines from the master cylinder and the front right from the back to the front. Left rear bleeder rounded off but pedal feel good, right rear must have got 99% of the air out. Will fix when I do the rear line. Break fluid was disgusting. Used 2 qts for the job.

My 2004 Yukon did that to the rear lines. Rusted out above the gas tank. I was 1800 miles from home !!! Cost me $1000 at a red neck dealer, and $100 for the tow truck.

GM knows about it. The lines were not galvanized correctly at the factory. However, legally they are not responsible for a recall after 10 years, or something like that.

I still have the truck, so I know the front lines will fail soon.

It's definitely a known issue, because they're one of the only vehicles you can get a set of pre bent lines for and they cost next to nothing. Haven't had an issue with mine yet, but I'll probably just change them soon. I can get them for around $80 through my work so it's definitely worth the peace of mind.

Sounds like this needs to be a Sticky. Any mods on that would be willing to make it so, so that others can see this right away?

Not sure why this requires a "sticky". Pm me to discuss if you would like

Im gonna jump in here and see if you guys can lend me some expertise identifying a part.

Same sort of story, brake pedal to the floor in traffic, broken line, fluid everywhere.

The difference is that my leak isnt on a hard line, but one of 3 rubber hoses next to the abs box (box with 5 lines). These buggers arent but 8-10 inches long.

What are these things called so i can order some? All my searching has come up empty. Thanks!

Edit: nevermind...im an idiot. Lol thats not where my leak is. Its on one of the 4 lines before they run over the frame and into the abs
