Is it possible to do any upgrade to be able to get the wi-fi that is in the 15's?

Is it a whole different radio or....????

Somehow you have have to have data access in the vehicle. Couldn't you do the same thing with a smart phone that has mobile hotspot capability? Usually an extra from your provider but probably not any more than from Onstar.

Learn to root your phone. Then you can tether and use the data you've already paid for. Companies will charge you twice because they know you'll pay for it.

Now days it is allowed and you dont need root. when at SEMA, Zane, Josh, and I ran my Xbox One off my phones data. AT&T and Verizon no longer charge the extra cost to teather.

its is part of onstar, and expensive unless you have an att family plan.

You can add it to your att plan as just another device.

Its really only cool for a few days.

Works about the same as my att phone.

I was expecting a better signal.

Just root your phone and use it.

I still use the phone.

Why? Because the OnStar sales person lied to you and told you that the cellular service was a very useful thing to purchase because it worked better than a cell phone and was satellite-based? :)

About the ONLY advantage would be a possibly slight singal improvement because of an externally-mounted antenna.

With an iPhone, I know that VZW and AT&T can not / do not stop you from enabling the hotspot functionality on the device itself. Android phones are not necessarily the same (or, at least they weren't mid-to-late 2014) and you may have to pay the carrier to unlock the feature. Argue that you would have the feature if you had an iPhone and couple it with the argument that "it's your data, and you're not going to pay them another monthly fee for the privilege of using it faster" and you might get them to enable it at no charge.

If you have a family share plan with AT&T, it's actually pretty stupid (IMHO) to add the truck as a data device. You'll only ever use data while in the truck, and you can get the EXACT same feature from enabling hotspot on the phone (and you don't have to pay $10/month to add the truck).
