Any Supercharged K2XX Owners?

Hey guys,

My 2015 Sierra Denali 6.2L/8S is scheduled to arrive at the end of this month. Just got out of a 2014 High Country 6.2L but was thinking about getting some more power out of my Denali. Has anyone supercharged their 5.3L or 6.2L K2XX truck? Not interested in hearing about the K2's as they are completely different.

My choices right now are:

1) Whipple - https://whipplesuperchargers.com/index.php?dispatch=products.view&product_id=180

2) Edelbrock - no pricing avail.

3) Hennessey - way too pricey for their packages and I've heard mixed reviews

4) SLP - no product info avail for 14/15.

Thanks in advance!

I had a conversation with Whipple yesterday afternoon, magnuson a few months ago and have not spoken to edelbrock that I recall off hand. Here were is what I have gathered regarding magnuson, edelbrock and whipple:

Magnuson

1900cc displacement

quicker spinup

more fuel efficient

smaller fluid capacity (less ability to withstand long pulls i.e. towing on grade)

higher IAT

smallest heat exchanger

dyno charts are interesting...they claim stock pull was around 310hp when most chassis dynos on these trucks seem to be around 290-300. This makes me think their 416hp claim is overstated anywhere between 10 and 20hp.

Not as thermally efficient..almost maxed out in capacity with existing heat exchanger.

Edelbrock

2300cc displacement

bigger heat exchanger

lower IAT

nearly same fluid capacity as magnuson

dyno indicates stock pull ~325 hp....makes me think their 445 hp rating is overrated by 25-35 hp.

Whipple

2900cc displacement

lower fuel efficiency in cruise

biggest heat exchanger (both taller and thicker than edelbrock

4 gallons total capacity..2 gallons in the reservoir.

lowest IAT

dyno indicates 296hp stock with 450hp rating...the stock number seems right...is the 450 claim actually honest?

slower response due to larger displacement? Whipple says no.

IMHO...I think the 2900 will give you more room for more mods because the supercharger is nowhere near maxed out.

Whipples huge heat exchanger and massive fluid capacity should be awesome to preserve hp rating when pulling up long grades.

Whipple claims that is not possible to develop an E-85 tune for their setup because the fuel system is completely maxed out in stock configuration. With fuel supply being bumped up and a custom tune e-85 should be restored.

They sure do spark knock and have to retard timing a lot being bone stock.

I would guess that is because of the fuel available where you live. I typically run 89 octane in mine and have yet to hear it spark knock.

I have the Magnussen TVS 1900 and a set of American Racing headers on my truck.

I have a 2014 GMC crew cab Denali truck with a 6.2 L direct inject motor. I had Manny and the boys at Dasilva motorsports in Kitchener Ontario install the Magnuson TVS 1900 supercharger and a set of American racing headers. The truck Put down 320RWHP in stock form. The SC gave it 100 RWHP and the headers added about 30 hp more. Truck ran 14.7s in the 1/4 stock and then ran mid 13 with the SC. With the headers the truck got down to very low 13s. With just a bit more fine tuning by ARUN at dasilva's and a good launch in 4wd off the line then switching to 2wd, I got the truck to run several 12.9s. at 104 to 105 mph.

My Best was

60 ft .... 1.84\

1/8.....8.28 @ 83mph

1/4 ....12.94 @ 105mph

About 6k before install. About another thousand for install. That's average. It's going to vary on the shop and what charger you go with. I have a new Magnuson for sale if your interested.

Watching with great interest. Looks like a Whipple with CAI headers and exhaust installed is around 11k but I will not do the mod until my factory warranty is out so will just watch and listen. Now GM apparently uses a supercharger on the 6.2 in the Corvette Z car so what is that one? is it a GM part number that a person could order? can my dealer put me one on?

    • The engine was done as part of the 6.2 recall?   You'd have to see if your VIN also has the 6.2 engine special coverage on it.  Coverage number is N252494003.  If you have this, your engine is covered under this and NOT the GM replacement part engine warranty which is 3yr/100k from the date of install.  The 3yr/100k mi warranty is in effect for non warranty purchases.     This is not any different if it was replaced under warranty without a recall or special coverage.  So if you had a 5.3 and it popped at 3 years in at 50,000mi during the 5yr/60k powertrain, the replacement engine would not get the 3yr/100k, and instead gets the remainder of the 5yr/60k as coverage.     So N252494003 gives 10 years or 150,000mi of coverage, which ever comes first, starting at the vehicle in service date.  So if your in service date is 01/01/2022, N252494003 gives you special coverage of the engine until 01/01/2032 or 150,000mi, whichever comes first.  So if your start date was 01/01/2022, you'd have left 5 years and 4 months (lets round to august 1st), or 62,000mi left of coverage.   So you need to know your in service date to know how much coverage is left.
    • Okiee dokie there bud, way to take things to the extreme.   I guess you missed the whole point and take things way to serious. I installed different EV6 style injectors that just so happen to be larger in my car running the same LQ4 engine and with a better spray pattern than the stock style injectors and I noticed no difference in the idle quality. Kinda was my round about way of saying that even if you put the same size but better style injectors in your truck, you will likely see the same thing.    I'm sure you're great to have conversations with in person if that's how you act through a keyboard. One little things sets you off and now I guess my dick is all up in your face.
    • I can't believe that could possibly be the case. It should be 36mo/100k miles from installation. Then again, it also seems like since a dealership installed it, it'd all be in the system and you wouldn't need to worry about registering, either. Shows you what I know. 😄 Hope this one outlives the warranty!
    • I haven't seen inventory recovery from COVID.    In the few random times I 'build my own' truck or SUV, no one has the exact one I want.   GM has been working to lower incentives too for a long time.    A $500 incentive isn't getting me off the couch to go truck shopping.
