4x4 will not work

I am getting "service 4 wheel drive" message on the display. Dealership said there is a problem where cold weather will make that come on but no problem everything works drive like normal "GM is working on a fix" famous last words.

Weather was bad today so I switched it to Auto and nothing happened. Light only comes on solid when switched all the way over to 4x4 but it is not really engaged. Only drives in 2x4 no matter where the switch is. Light never flashes to say that it is switching or anything ever comes on the screen telling you "shift in progress".

Taking it back to the dealership.

Anyone else had this happen?

They gave me this but it rarely gets this cold in the Deep South and also indicates that the transfer case should work like normal after startup.

Does the 4wd knob light up on any setting? The above bulletin seems to fit 99% of the people having this issue. However we had to order a transfer case control module for someone today for a problem more simular to yours.

The trucks I've seen having the common 4wd issue will have the 4wd knob light up on settings other than 2wd. The one today, the knob did not light up on any setting. After some checking, had to get a tccm.

The light is lit up when switched to 4x4 but nothing actually changes. Still in 2 wheel drive

A lot of similar talk about this on the pickup section, but it is usually stuck in 4wd rather than 2wd.

Scanned transfer case control module, found code 0321. 2-4 wheel drive actuator internally shorted.

Replaced 2-4 wheel drive actuator, relearned actuator

Hi everyone. I have a 2015 yukon Denali that had this issue. I'm stationed in Grafenwoehr Germany and shipped the vehicle here from Phoenix AZ. To make a long story short, as soon as the German weather dropped below 32 degrees F the 4wd became stuck in the Auto mode. When attempting to turn left or right at low speeds the 4wd would engage itself in high lock making turns difficult. No matter what setting you turned the dial to the only selection that lit up was the "auto" and it remained in 4wd. First attempt at a German GMC Dealer fix was the cable replacement for the nuetral fix recall. No changes... Second attempt the GM folks stateside sent a software update to the German GM dealer . So far (knock on wood) the problem has been rectified. The German GMC Dealer says if the fix doesn't take they will replace the transmission (4000 miles on vehicle). Will post again if the issue returns.

i was wondering how we would know which vehicles were equipped with a single speed transaxle or two speed transaxle? My 2015 escalade was made august 2014 and i have a single speed switch that has (2 high - auto - 4 high).

I have seen some others with 2 speed switches that are (2 high - auto - 4high - 4 low).

does it matter what switch or transaxle we have that are having the "Service 4 wheel drive" error? Also could these errors be happening because they put the wrong switch in some vehicles? GMC did put the wrong swiches in some 2015 GM Canyons and that caused errors also.

My 2015 Suburban is getting stuck in both since I got it "fixied" the first time. If shut off in auto and turned on it sticks in 4x4. Then if turned off in 2wd it will be ok to drive for a bit before sevice 4x4 warning shows up and won't transfer out. I'm upset as this issue was known before I purchased the vehicle and the dealership didn't disclose this to me... Today the truck went in today and came home still having the same problems. Contacted GM directly, hopefully they can shed some light on this issue. my husbands 2014 silverado has the same problem and is being fixed. I don't think this is good for my new truck :(
