What If Denali Rear Bumper Modification

Wondering, "what if", I took a front license plate/tow hook surround from the Sierra Denali and custom fit one it into the rear bumper "might look like" if professionally done. Even considering running dual exhaust through the openings that house the tow hook. Would need to work out relocation of the trailer wiring hookup connector and figure out a new means to lower/raise the spare but I suspect it could be done.

Interesting idea. Are you painting the middle part white to match ?

I wouldn't put a tow hook on the bumper. I'd attach it to the actual frame. Good idea though, would look good with exhaust running through there!

I'm gonna explore/play with the idea some more to include further research as to how the rear bumper is assembled (face metal, more strengethened metal behind it, mounting brackets, etc.) Then determine if the front license plate surround could be integrated into the rear bumper to include additional sheet metal being welded in to close up the mid-bumper section (top and face), cut in the profile for the surround, then have the modified bumper powder coated to match (summit white); followed by installing the surround in place. No need to paint the center part of the surround its ABS chrome plated already (Denali) and mounting of the license plate would be the filler.

 

If this can work, I'd likely use the tow hook openings for mounting additional rear LED lights (or maybe even keep the tow hooks) but I doubt dual exhaust could be run through the bumper/surround openings due to the spare tire placement behind the bumper and under the bed.

 

At this stage is just concept, needs much more "garage engineering" to determine if its doable. I'd only do it if it could be done in a manner to present a high quality fit/finish but do think that having the surround both front and rear of the truck might be something of character while not "trashing" the truck with some "wanna-be" chop job.
