Something swimming in my fuel tank ??

I made a post earlier about thump noises after stopping.

Dealer said they greased my leafs and should be gone. Issue started again right after I left the dealer.

Today I got under the truck. Let someone reverse and stop. I heard and felt the noises from the fuel tank. Like something's is loose? Swimming inside? Going back and forth. The stronger the stopping the louder the sound.

Anyone face a similar issue? This is a 2015 single cab 4x4.

Taking it to the dealer tomorrow. I would like some insight.

I'll attach the picture of where the sound is most noticeable.

Thanks guys.

In another thread, someone pointed out the possibility of a small stone/debris on the spare tire rolling around. Check that before lowering the fuel tank.

On a side note, I thought fuel tank had a skid plate or some kind of protective plate in the bottom. Does your truck have a Z71 option?

I've checked the spare tired. All is good.

Yes this is a z71 option. Truck has 2k miles only.

Another possibility someone mentioned before is sloshing of the liquid inside the tank. Do they install internal baffles in these tanks? Baffles alleviate this condition.

There could also be some pebble or something similar trapped between the fuel tank skid plate and the fuel tank. I would remove the skid plate and make sure. And make sure that skid plate is securely fastened too.

The photograph depicts a fuel tank bottom. There is no skid plate to trap a pebble or debris.

With the Z71 option, the fuel tank skid plate was always included. My 2006 Z71 has a large wraparound fuel tank skid plate. It came with the Z71 package. Did this change for the 2014 or 2015 model year?

Soo... You hear a sloshing noise in your gas tank just after its been moved a bit?

Yes. After coming to a stop, either after driving forward or reverse. I hear something moving and banging inside, and when I'm under the truck I can hear the liquid move. But definitely an object or a loose part inside.

Yes I thought it would too. But I've check 2 other z71 2015 , there is no fuel tank skid plates.

You're just hearing the gas slosh around.

I don't think so, it's too hard to be a slosh. It causes a vibration across the entire tank and also felt into the cabin. At times slight vibration onto the bed

Maybe they dropped something in the tank when installing the fuel pump at the factory, like a pair of pliers or a screwdrier? Or an extra fuel level sending unit? I guess anything is possible.

If something was dropped in it would have to be very dense to make noise. Being suspended in the fuel would keep it from moving very quickly.

I had a very similar situation years ago on a '96 K1500 I bought used. Every so often I'd hear a thunk in the tank, and would only thunk when the tank was more than half full. Finally pulled the tank off and peered in the filler port to find it was a lose baffle sliding around when the fuel sloshed enough. It looked like plastic, which explained the thunk versus a more clanky metal-to-metal sound. I didn't want to try to open the tank and then reseal it to fix it or remove it, or try to break it up and get it out through the filler or sending unit hole, so I got a tank from a junkyard and solved it that way.

Or it could be something that floats.
