major differential work

I have a 2011 sierra 1500 st 4wd 4.8 club. A month ago I noticed what I thought was exessive road noise or gear noise. Turned out it was from rear differential and took 3 weeks for parts. Still under warranty thank goodness,

What would cause such catastrophic damage the truck is very clean and theres not a scratch on it- here is a scan of the parts replaced.

Geez. I've had the entire rear axle assembly replaced for less than that (including the cost of the replacement).

Hopefully, the techs working on your truck are better mechanics than they are spellers.

Frankly, if that was my truck, I would've pushed to have them replace the whole unit. If the gears and bearings were all pitted, I'd have to assume the housing is pitted as well.

I saw that... It was my exact thought, too.

Fortunately, techs aren't known for their spelling prowess.

Dam that's some high dollar rebuild there...

Wonder what the labor was if it wasn't warranty work

I should have asked but I was just to happy to finally get the truck back. They had it for 3 weeks waiting while GM was looking for a gear kit LOL This musta been real expensive when you add the labor and 3 weeks of supplying a rented vehicle to me.

Seems to me that they did!!

Wats Wong wit tek spwing aniwaz ??? Lol

I've told you guys before :

A component is removed and parts are priced out for repair ( warranty or customer pay , doesn't matter),

If the cost OF REPAIR is higher than the cost OF REPLACMENT, they will replace the component .... Engine , transmission , transfer case , differentials ,,,,,

Lesson is over for today !!! Lol

This is POLICY on both sides of the boarder folks ,,,,,,

Dealer parts markup is often 100% and warranty work is often billed higher than service work. A knowlegable shop could have done this job with equal or in some cases batter parts for half the parts total list including their labor.

If I were you I would have gone the warranty work, but if anyone else finds this and is out of warranty some Timken bearings, Eaton limited slip and a set of motive gears can be had for under a grand. I would take an Eaton limited slip over the gov-loc pos any day
