Truck moving when in park and turned off?

Hello, last night it had snowed and rained a little bit leaving a couple inches of slush and snow. This morning I had left the driveway unplowed but parked my truck on a slight hill. When I turned it off I put it in park and put the parking brake on. I came back out to the truck and it had moved about 4-6 feet down the small hill in the driveway. I thought this was odd since nobody had moved my truck. After this I had also went to work and parked in the unplowed parking lot and I was walking away from the truck and it rolls about a foot or two. I know if you put the parking brake on with your foot on the brake it moves about a couple inches but this was a lot more. Not sure if this is transmission or parking brake. Please help if you know anything, truck only has ~7000 miles on it .

Take it to dealer. Not your problem

Look at the treads in the snow... is it tire tread or nice and smooth... if it's smooth it slid... if it's tire tread somethings up with your tranny

The parking brake has nothing to do with the transmission. Mysterious.

I looked at the treads first to see if it was forced movement or if they were rolling and they looked like it was a rolling tread. It did not look like I skidded in the snow

It's the snow and ice under the rear tires. I have experienced this many times in my driveway. Drive up, use service brake to stop, put trans in N, engage parking brake, release service brake, shift to P, and the truck slide down to the end of the driveway. There just isn't enough number of braked tires to hold it in place.

Did you have the recall performed that prevents the transfer case from shifting into neutral?

I bought the truck October 17th of 2014 so I assume the build date is somewhere in that period of the recall, but I'm not sure

You probably just need the transfer case recall. My build date was October of '13 and the transfer case recall wasn't done when I bought it in April of last year but had it done maybe a month later I believe. All you have to do is call the nearest dealer and have them look up the recalls done and recalls needed for your VIN.

 

I've never had a probably with any truck I've had slide in snow when parked, I could understand if it was parked on pure ice, but snow it shouldn't move. Still a little strange for it to roll with the parking brake on, but if the incline is enough of an incline it could possibly move. I'm not exactly sure what the parking brake is for a disc brake setup, at least for these trucks. Could be small brake shoes just like a small drum setup. What could be happening is setting the parking brake after driving in the snow and have some buildup in the drum where the parking brake is so the buildup isn't allowing the shows or pads to contact the disc like it should. Then when that snow or whatever melts then the parking brake isn't holding the truck as good as it should, almost like just pushing the pedal down halfway. Just a theory.

One thing I've noticed with the parking brake on the newer trucks is you do have to push it HARD to get any hold. Older GM trucks, if you felt any resistance in the parking brake you were good to go. Not so any more it seems.

Also in the newer trucks I have noticed if you put the parking brake on and the truck is still in drive then it does absolutely nothing.

I'd bet its a matter of your vehicle being parked on an incline and sliding on ice once the temperature drops especially after light rain, i.e. black ice. you didn't post your location but did mention both snow and rain. parking brakes won't help in such situations.

 

Living in Alaska, its a common thing here to find an unattended vehicle has moved when left parked on an incline with freezing rain conditions unless you have studded tires,
