GMC Dealership Mechanic, Ughh

Took my 1 week old GMC Denali into service department today cause I the Xm was not getting a signal. So after and and hour in the waiting room the lady comes out and says I have to leave the truck over night, it needs a new radio . So I tell the lady I have to go to my truck to get a few things . Go to the garage and the mechanic is sitting in the drivers side , I go to the passenger side and open the door and he has a drill with a bit in the end a few tools and the trim all sitting on top of my $300 dollar sunglasses . So I look over and he has the radio out and sitting wright on top of the center console no towel or anything to stop the console from getting scratched. Also I have the light interior with nothing on the seat . Is it me you spend $50,000 for a truck and you think the guy would have a little respect for someone eles property and take a little pride in what he's doing .

I'm surprised they even allowed you back there.

Usually they wont let me in the shop for "insurance reasons".

Same here. Unfortunately I think all vehicles get that treatment in the dealers

I hate when mechanics leave black fingerprints wether it's on the dash or in the engine bay just gets me so angry

pope125 - not only is that 100% unacceptable, you are 100% correct. But just imagine at that service department, things you don't see. Having respect for someone else's property is the key.

I just wish they would show more respect like it's their own car. I always find small scratches or scuffs any time i take it into the dealer. I guess it's just normal to me now. Now my 08 Z06 , that's another story. Ain't no way in hell that car is ever going into a gm dealership. It's not some high priced exotic and maybe it's worth no more than 40k but I've had too many bad instances to trust them.

Things have for sure gotten better , with newer dealerships , and surveys being a huge part of the deal , there are some cool peeps. Just sad there are some who treat the cars so shitty.

Your best action to take is put it in the survey! Surveys are the blood in a dealership. When you put a negative response on the survey the service writer and tech have to answer as to why you put what you put. They take those surveys very seriously there. I know it was not the service writers fault just the techs so make sure you don't make the negative response reflect on the service writer (unless he sucked too).

Unfortunately some techs are not car guys, they are just there for the check. You can tell when you get a car guy that works on your truck, you get it back cleaner and nicer than it was when you brought it in.

That really sucks. I've had similar experiences. When my wife's car was a week old we dropped it back off at the dealership to get some additional stuff installed for a week while she was out of town and when we got it back it was all dirty inside and out and had over 200 more miles on it. I swear they must of used it to run errands all week. Like the other guys say take the time to respond to any survey you get. If it's a negative response they typically follow up with you.
