AMP Power Step rattle?

I have a rattle that's driving me nuts.

 

It's only the driver side step that rattles when hitting any little bump. I've traced it to the left step. When I grab the front edge of the retracted step, I can pull down enough to create a little gap on the up position stop. I believe this is the source.

 

Anyone else having this?

I did when they were first installed. The installation guys didn't tighten them enough and my driver side was loose. Since I torqued them to spec, not a sound.

Yep you have a loose bolt, nut, or combination Spurshot. Seems like it's pretty common with these steps I personally go ahead and check each but and bolt every other or every 3rd time I wash the truck. Check it by hand that is. And then once every other month I'll take out the ratchet and make sure that it's definitely tight

Mine does it as well. When step on it it sweaks. Just haven't messed with it yet. I have too many projects I'm doing at once.....

I'm sorry I don't know how to post my question.... so I'm going to add it to your post .... my 4wd went out then it snowed and someone turned it on not knowing it was out and it cracked that bowl that sits on top of the transfer case I don't know what it's called I done brought 700 dollars worth of parts from the gmc dealership that are non refundable and still aren't the right parts someone pls help

Mine does it as well. When step on it it sweaks. Just haven't messed with it yet. I have too many projects I'm doing at once.....

 

 

just go ahead and reach on under and make sure all nuts and bolts are tightened properly. If they need to be tightened then get a ratchet and tighten them all the way, its easy. Only takes you a few minutes

I used loctite on all bolts when I installed and havr not had a sound. Hopefully it's just a bolt and use some thread locker this time.

I'm not convinced my problem is loose bolts. I can pull down and open the the scissor links on the front link. The actuator is near the back on the driver side step.

Watch the AMP research installation video on YouTube and check each step they take when installing. The guys installing may have installed the drivers side motor with the step in the wrong position causing it to not retract fully/lock. If it's not that or a loose bolt it could be a dud set but that's pretty unlikely.

Just had the exact same issue you're having. I'd bet that it's your parking brake block(where one cable changes to two) just bouncing enough to slightly touch the step. In order to remedy this I just bent the wire bracket AMP supplied us with up a little bit and problem solved. I found it by banging upwards with my hand on the underside of the retracted step till I heard the slight rattle, then traced it to that block on the cable.

    • have you stuck with dealer oil changes since then? I made the same switch after getting tired of crawling around under the truck, but I’ve found some dealers are way better than others about getting you in quickly. Curious if yours has been good about scheduling or if you’ve had to look elsewhere for quicker turnaround.
    • Thank you.   I am set on a 3.0 Duramax as my previous truck with a Ford Ecoboost had just as many, if not more, "common" issues.  Cam phasers, timing chain issues, 10-speed valve body and CDF drum, emissions issues, etc.  So I figured, why not get 2x the fuel mileage (these things got 27+mpg on every mixed city/highway test drive I put them through) and better towing capability with resale value to boot?   My minimum, shortest trip will be 50 miles 1-way and I regularly go out of state with a travel trailer.  I'm planning on using this for a marketing/event promotion business also, which would require regular towing of trailers for bands, DJs, sound and lighting gear, along with my personal camera gear for filming events.   Looked at other trucks in the $30k+ price range but the issues seem to be everywhere, plus too many with gaudy mods.  I'm literally sticking with RWD trucks because they tend to be actually used as trucks, vs. the 4x4 models I've seen with unsafe lifts, huge tires, and general mods that would affect reliability (I'm wondering if some of them were tuned, hence the aggressive throttle response and hard shifting).   So my goal is to find a stock, 3.0 with 1 or 2 owners, in good physical condition, and decently well maintained.  Can't seem to find that up here, everything in the $27-30k range has had multiple owners, smoke smell, issues, or body damage.  Or the ridiculously modified trucks with 80k miles for under $27k but lots of problems...

    • Engine Wear and ISO 4406   1.) Cold Starts. 2.) High Particle Count. 3.) Low operating temperature viscosity and high low temperature cranking viscosity. 4.) Depleted AW, Friction and Acid packages.  5.)
