Cleaning the Chrome Grille

Any advice for cleaning the chrome grille on a 2014 GMC Sierra. I know it is not real chrome, almost a plastic, but any advice on polish?

Blow it off. People are just like that and you will see that the rest of your life. Been through that myself. Take pride YOU worked for what you have....no one else.

LOL not sure what that was all about.

I use glass cleaner and a microfiber towel to clean the stubborn bug splatters off it.

I wax mine when i wax my truck. removes water spots. i wax my mirror covers door handles and grill.

I like to use a leaf blower to dry the grill. It's faster than toweling, and helps to keep the water spots from forming.

wells1452 - remember, your grille is not chrome, I wouldn't recommend to clay bar it. During the wash, I have a sponge with a mesh covering, the mesh usually grabs the debris (bugs, tar, etc) and the sponge will mop up after that. In-between washes, glass cleaner works fine.

If you are trying to remove bug splatter this is what I do, which works great.

I like to use a dedicated bug/tar remover. Several brands make them, Stoner, RainX, Turtle Wax. I currently have the latter but its real simple.

  • Make sure the truck is under shade and cool to touch.
  • Spray the bug/tar remover liberally on all bugs on the front, side mirrors, and windshield if necessary.
  • fill a bucket with your preferred car was soap. DO NOT use this same bucket to wash your car. The bug/tar remover chemical breaks down the soap. You are really only using the soap as a lubricant to prevent adding scratches and swirl marks.
  • Let the bug/tar remover sit anywhere between 5-15 minutes. READ the directions on the bottle. Time varies.
  • With a clean microfiber towel soak it in the bucket and scrub all the areas. You will notice all the bugs will start clinging onto the MF towel. If necessary use more than one towel as rinsing often will not remove all the bugs.
  • Once you are done with the font end rinse it off and begin your normal car wash routine.

Living in Texas I've dealt with my fare share of bugs on the front end. It helps a little if you regularly you use paint sealant or wax on the front end. I try not to go too long with bugs on the front end as they can etch the clear coat over time, especially with the hot sun beaming down on them.

I use the leave blower or air compressor. It works like a champ! 0b9e41a183af54b6365fc2f61f87dd2c.jpg
