wheel bearing question

Last year did my drivers side. Yesterday my passenger. Question is, do you guys find these things go really suddenly? Every other vehicle I've owned, I've gotten growing, or howling from the bearing as a sign its going. On this truck, I hear a quick clunk sound, then a lot of clack clack clack and its got crazy play in it. Thankfully both times I've been at our shop where I could leave and replace it. But I find these give little to no warning. Common or am I crazy?

On my previous truck ('06 Sierra) the driver side went very slowly with very little noise while driving. The second time it went it growled/howled for a bit, but it gave out all at once. As in started grinding and making all kinds of nasty noises. Now the passenger only went out once and it went from a howling to "holy crap I busted my differential" in just a few miles. It all really depends are how much the bearing "loosens", if it just breaks loose a little, you can at least make it down the road to a repair shop. If it breaks loose a lot...it sounds like you better already be at a place to get the repair done.

Is there some way to make the wheel bearing last longer? I read somewhere that you can pull the sensor out of the hub assembly and pump it full of grease. Is there any truth to this?

I know you can't repair them, but I know the sensor has an allen head screw that holds the speed sensor in place. What I'm getting at is you can pull the sensor and push grease in.

Just replaced my Pass side, thinking my driver side may need to be replaced in the near future too.

I have 180k miles on my 04 Silverado. I recently pumped wheel bearing grease in the hub through the sensor hole as mentioned above. Truck ran just fine on a recent 800+ mile trip from socal to norcal and back

I just did my right side at 46k. Started whining, no looseness. Rockauto.com has really good prices on ACDelcos.

Saw a video on youtube not long ago and in the video the guy mentions a fitting with a grease zerk that temporarily mounts to the spot the wheel speed sensor goes to help pump grease in the hub but I can't find it again.

I think hub bearings are random. Some people get 35-40k miles before they are done. I consider myself lucky and I will pump grease in them once a year or so

Are the eBay hub assembly worth the time they're super cheap like 70 bucks. Do thy compare to what advance auto sells for double the price ?

NO!!!!!!! You get what you pay for with those..

Cheap work ain't good, and good work ain't cheap.

Who is the manufacturer of the parts? If it isn't something like Timken or Moog I'd pass and pay for better quality parts.
