I just bought my first Sierra. It's a 1500 slt I was wondering how many guy got the gm extended of if it would be nesseseary. Any oppinions

I can't find a lot of info online. I mean I know the basics of a GMPP. I'm curious about things like miles/years of coverage available, and what is the latest date/highest mileage you can purchase a plan?

 

One website I found described it like this: Your truck has 6k miles on it. You purchase a 5year/100k plan. So your warranty expires 5 years and 106k miles from date of purchase. Well if you purchase at any time during the factory warranty period, aren't you completely "wasting" all that overlap time?

 

Also I only drive about 10k miles per year so I am more worried about a longer time period than high mileage.

 

Does it cost significantly more to purchase at 12k rather than 2k? I thought it was a relatively set price from my dealings in the Corvette community.

 

EDIT: I'm getting a decked out Denali, so I'm definitely worried about all the computers and electronics a few years down the road.

My truck will be approaching two years this coming September and I was thinking of getting an extended warranty due to all the electronics and because these trucks are getting very harder to work on. Usually the smallest things could cost about $500 to $1,000 in repairs. GM oil changes especially on trucks are over $50. I know the oil change is not covered under a extended warranty but just stating everything is getting expensive.

 

The only problem is I find the GM warranties are very expensive after you purchase the vehicle compare to Toyota, Mazda and Honda etc.. My nephew purchased his Toyota extended warranty in the state of MA instead of CT for half the cost for the same Toyota warranty. My sister purchased her Honda extended warranty in RI instead of CT for the same reasons. In both cases this was big savings for the same thing.

 

I would like to know what are people paying for GM extended warranties stating deductibles, mileage and number of years etc. If it is cheaper than CT, I would go out of state to purchase one. This way I could also save of the state tax as well. I find it pays to shop around. On my Mazda - one dealer wanted to sell me a Mazda extended warranty for seven years, 70,000 miles and a $100 deductible for $1,200. That same warranty through from another dealership, I got 10 years, 100,000 miles and no deductible for $1,000. I went back to the first dealership and they wouldn't change their quote after I told him what I got on the second quote.

 

I was reading about the new Ford pickup truck with motion detecting rear tail lights cost $900 (each) to replace and the tail lights can't be repaired.

 

So I was wondering where in the country I could get my best deal.

That's not bad. If it was like $1200 I would go for it for peace of mind.

 

My 2004 Sierra SLT went 7 years and roughly 91,000 miles without a single repair until I traded it in. Literally only did basic routine maintenance, a set of tires, one O2 sensor chewed up by a mouse, and a battery. Maybe I just got lucky.

Gmpp is going away, it is through ally not gm. The new gmc warranty is gmepp. I called james black cadillac, the cts v forums recommended, and she said that after 12000 miles the price goes up but you can still get the gmepp as long as you are still in the 3y/36000.

 

One cool thing is the new gm warranty covers the mag shocks on the Denali while the old gmpp does not. People also have said gmepp costs less than gmpp

I feel $1,200 to $2,000 (depending on trim levels and models) with zero deductible and seven years on a 4X4 truck would be reasonable. But I heard GM is looking for a lot more than those figures.

Why buy something till you need it. Extended warranties is the new biggest snake oil gimmmick. Wait till your original is up, and then buy one if you still have a truck.

On a SLT Crew 4x4. I had GMPP (or Vaden Auto Warranty) quoted me $1350.0 for 48 months / 100k miles. The lady said that I would get it cheaper through the dealer.

 

I drive high miles and buy new every 3 to 4 years.

The only thing is you cant buy the GMPP/GMEPP once you are outside of the 3yr/36k mile warranty period. the longer you wait to buy it the more expensive (it can double in price) the warranty coverage becomes.

 

I plan into looking into it for mine as well, used to be you could get it from any dealer and lots of dealers would wheel and deal on the warranties. I don't know if that is the case now though, I think my dealer quoted me $1700 for the $0 ded one for mine.
