Fog Lights / Driving Lights

Did a search and came up with nothing. I am looking for some nice driving lights to replace the fog lights in my truck. Would like to find lights with a cutoff line that does not glare into oncoming traffic but provide additional lighting for driving safety. We only have fog here about one day a year, but drive at night often. It would be nice to find something in an HID to match the headlight conversion. Any ideas or vendors you guys could recommend would be appreciated.

If you are going for maximum light and helpfulness while minimizing how much you blind other drivers, you'll want to stay away from HIDs in your fogs unless you have plans to retrofit a projector down there

Best options I've seen are to get the VLED V3 triton and adjust it so that the diodes are at the same offset from the reflector cup as the OEM bulb's filament is, this will give a great cut off line while still Boosting light by 3000 lumens per side[emoji106]

Next best option is the Rigid Industries DOT approved Dually pods

The pods are great but only throw out 1,7xx lumens per pod. Plenty of light for a fog light but still not as much as the VLED option. Also requires cutting,

I just installed the Rigid DOT fog lights. Let me tell you they are bright as hell, and I couldn't imagine going any brighter for legal on street use. Bonus getting rid of those ugly round stock fogs too.

I second the Rigid DOT/SAE fog lights. Excellent cutoff, like a projector type. Great width and evenness of the beam. They are not the incredible brightness of the D2 driving lights or light bars. But they are street legal and provide an excellent supplement to the headlights. One of our members even had to drive his truck with these an extended distance in rural NJ after his HID headlights failed. He praised them.

Rocking the D2 Driving lights and I have no regrets. The only time I run them is when I'm the only cat on the road but when I do it's daylight.

I wouldn't pay for the cost of Rigid anything. I have had both, and my ebay Fogs have lasted just as long. I did however use the Rigid Bracket for the Fogs. I paid les than $150 for all fogs and both brackets. They are crazy bright.

Hey I am looking to add amber fog lights from Rigid in the outside spot and the two inside fog mounts put white spots. What mount did you use and also how did you mount the switches? The set up looks awesome

I used Rigid's 2014 silverado fog mounts. I got the switches from Amazon and used a paddle bit and drilled out the holes. Ran the wires up the pillar and fished them out of the upper console. Very easy. And thank you [emoji106] .

I thought the mounting bracket was for sr-q or sr-m series lights only not the dually or d2's?

I don't think your lights are what the OP was asking about. You have driving lights. The OP wanted a sharp cutoff and something that didn't glare into oncoming traffic. Different goal than your lights.

They aren't, but they bolted right up. The only thing I had to do was use my dremel tool and cut out some of the plastic around them. They both bolted right to the brackets.

I wasn't really referring to the Op post, I was referring to the guy that first mentioned Rigid's. I just forgot to quote his post.

I bought the Rigid SAE/DOT fog lights. I already had some Baja Designs bright driving lights, which you'd probably like less than Rigid lights, since they're more expensive. I really like the the moderate and very controlled beam of the Rigid SAE/DOT fog light. I have the other lights for when I need more light on the lonesome highways or off road. Different lights for different situations.

To each his own, I cannot see spending money just because I can. I don't dislike things because they cost more. If there are no differences in the lights, output, design, size etc. then why pay more just because it has a popular name. Now if it has a function that you are desiring, like tight beam cutoff, then so be it. I've had both. I can afford anything made, but I choose to buy the cheaper version because there's no difference IMO, but that's just me. I've even opened these cheaper versions up to see if they are built cheap, and to my surprise, they are really well made, with very heavy duty components. But you're right about the functions. I didn't even notice he was looking for a tight beam cutoff.
