Ideas for 2016? which wire to tap for dome lights? thanks

That is the question my post in front of yours is asking. So far no answers though. It looks to be correct I would just like to verify it.

I've got the wire connections just like in the picture. Is this the correct wire for the footwell lights to work with the switch in the overhead console? I'm planning on doing this mod this weekend. If anyone has set there truck up like this could you verify it's correct. Thanks.

Yes this grey/black is the dome circuit. It will operate as the interior lights do, by remote control or manual switch. They will also fade out when locked via remote

Just like to say thanks to all of you posters out there that enabled me to successfully install my foot well and rear under-seat lights. I used the XKglo 4x13" set plus an additional 12" bar. I ended up making brackets out of aluminum "L" channel. All worked out very well. I'll try to post some pics tomorrow.

i used oznium lights in my truck - they've worked fantastic (i actually need to order more lights from them in the near future for other things i want to do). not only is their product great but i had a bunch of questions about stuff and their people are great to deal with too

this is what i used...

for inside my center console and for inside the back cubby hole: https://www.oznium.com/led-bolt

for footwell lighting and for my lighting inside the storage area on either side of the center console: https://www.oznium.com/led-ribbon

for a switch: https://www.oznium.com/rocker-switch

wire splice connectors (these are AWESOME!): https://www.oznium.com/quick-wire-splice-connector

for the LEDs on my dash (surface mount): https://www.oznium.com/plcc-2

you can see lots of pics of what i've done in my build thread (link in my sig below)

I used the grey wire in the drivers side pillar when I hooked mine up in my 14. Need to do it again in my 15 but I'm waiting to do it when I add some other lights. But that wire will turn the lights on as you want. If you push the switch on the overhead console, they'll come on.

As far as matching the lights, I used these little pods from oznium. I was happy with the color matching the domes/maps from the factory.

Did you ever post which lights you got?

I'd like to color match the domes.

There's 2 grey wires, one has a green stripe, the other is solid grey. You want the SOLID GREY wire which is the thicker of the 2 wires. Tapping this wire will give you the on with doors open and on with the "on" switch

If you want the lights to come on at the flick of the switch in each position, I'm not really sure but my guess is you'll almost definitely need to pull down the headliner to run wires above it from each light in the headliner, to the light in the respective footwell. I wanted to go this route at first too but thinking about it, it just sounds like a lot more work than it's worth.

I have pods from XK-glow.com and you sound about as OCD as I am when it comes to lights matching in color mike look perfect compared to the OEM lights, looks just like factory color

EDIT: also if you'd rather not have to run a wire from the pillar, you can find the same wire sitting behind the black cover under the far left side of the driver side dash. Wire is in the top left connector

Do you have a model # or link to the XK-glow lights you used?

This is basically what I ended up getting. They’ve changed up the website and their product design a few times since I ordered my light pods.

Also i looked at these just now and they say only available in green and red but I’m sure an email to XKGLOW would fix that.

I ended up going with these from amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003NV83BG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Pretty sure they are the ones you have.

    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
