6.2L 8 Speed OWNERS! GM UPDATE 15389

Is there any way to check if the recall has been done without going to dealer? My 2015 6.2 has 1700 miles on it and definitely not as smooth shifting as my 2014 6 speed.

I don't know guys, I had the TCC software update done on mine about 3 weeks ago. Most of how the trans operates seems pretty much the same (No real issues) however, my 2-1 downshifts intermittently (I HATE that word) have become VERY hard. The other night when getting off the freeway when coming to a stop it downshifted SO hard that it actually chirped the tires. I took it to a dealer the next day for its first oil change with 6000 miles on the odo. I told the service writer the downshift story and all he said was "Really? Hmmm" and pretty much dismissed it as probably needing another software update "If they ever come up with one"

A few more downshifts like that one last Thursday night and I'm afraid I'm gonna bust something...

Had mine done about 3 weeks ago. The shifts seemed too early at first, but got better as time passed. Overall, it is better than before the update. I really have no complaints other than the the light throttle shift to 2nd when cold (falls flat on its face).

I'm researching all these past forum threads to either buy a late 2015 to replace our 2012, or get a 2016. So to all those who have taken the time to put up useful, meaningful information, I thank you.

When I drive our 2012, I almost always use Manual mode because the 6 speed tranny has some quirks, like downshifting to 1 just has I hit the gas, giving my wife whiplash. When I trailer, I always use Manual. So when I get the 8 speed and use Manual mode, I was wondering how many of these issues I would ever experience? I am concerned that when the wife drives, that she may experience an issue and get upset.

But, she may keep the 2012 as "her" truck and I get the new one. My 2003 would be my "drive through the Arizona brush getting desert pinstripes and go to the dump" truck.

Thanks again. On to the next thread.

I haven't had the tcm update done to my 8spd yet but plan on doing it. I have a clunk that happens sometimes when I'm slowing down coming to a stop. It's like it down shifts really hard back into first gear when coming to a stop. Only sometimes though. I can't wait until they get the 8spd tuning down like they have done with the 6spd. Will definitely go that route when they do.

I love the 8 speed, totally different than the 6 speed I had in my '07 Yukon Denali, '07 Escalade ESV and '08 Yukon Denali. (Funny that I had 3 of the 6.2L 6 speeds over the last 10 years). Thats why I went with the 2015i Silverado, because I could get the 6.2L with 8 speed in a TRUCK! Otherwise I would have went with the 2015i Escalade. No offense meant to GMC Sierra Denali owners, I just don't care for the front end. I do Love that 6.2 motor. I know the "jerk" you are talking about and I don't feel that, even if I am in M5, M6 or M7. Even with tow/haul mode engaged, the truck smoothly downshifts when I decelerate. The exhaust breaking may help with that. Pretty cool feature imho. I DO plan on getting a tune or range to disable AFM. ANNOYING and WEAK!

    • I agree, simplicity and reliability matter more as vehicles get more complicated. A V8 work truck option with fewer electronic features and a stronger warranty would definitely appeal to a lot of buyers who use their trucks for real work. Customizing it with trusted outfitters is often the best way to get exactly what you need.webcrimsNY
    • I’ve heard similar complaints from newer vehicles where the factory “premium” systems don’t always live up to expectations. A good installer should be able to improve the sound without turning it into a bass-heavy setup. I’d look into upgrading the front speakers, adding a quality DSP amplifier, and possibly improving sound deadening first—those changes usually make a much bigger difference than just adding a subwoofer. Hopefully someone local can recommend a reputable installer in the Las Vegas/St. George area.
    • Do you remember that Harley Davidson was more successful (solvent) when it produced about 60% of the market demand (by design) and forced wait times of up to three years? Even when your turn came around it was, "Take what we are giving you or move to the back of the line and start over". HUGE markup's were 'normalized' and dealer killed. 40% markup and no floor plan? What's not to love? Greed will kill them yet. They have surplus production and customer base is tanking. And still they think nosebleed pricing will work.
    • The engine was done as part of the 6.2 recall?   You'd have to see if your VIN also has the 6.2 engine special coverage on it.  Coverage number is N252494003.  If you have this, your engine is covered under this and NOT the GM replacement part engine warranty which is 3yr/100k from the date of install.  The 3yr/100k mi warranty is in effect for non warranty purchases.     This is not any different if it was replaced under warranty without a recall or special coverage.  So if you had a 5.3 and it popped at 3 years in at 50,000mi during the 5yr/60k powertrain, the replacement engine would not get the 3yr/100k, and instead gets the remainder of the 5yr/60k as coverage.     So N252494003 gives 10 years or 150,000mi of coverage, which ever comes first, starting at the vehicle in service date.  So if your in service date is 01/01/2022, N252494003 gives you special coverage of the engine until 01/01/2032 or 150,000mi, whichever comes first.  So if your start date was 01/01/2022, you'd have left 5 years and 4 months (lets round to august 1st), or 62,000mi left of coverage.   So you need to know your in service date to know how much coverage is left.
    • Okiee dokie there bud, way to take things to the extreme.   I guess you missed the whole point and take things way to serious. I installed different EV6 style injectors that just so happen to be larger in my car running the same LQ4 engine and with a better spray pattern than the stock style injectors and I noticed no difference in the idle quality. Kinda was my round about way of saying that even if you put the same size but better style injectors in your truck, you will likely see the same thing.    I'm sure you're great to have conversations with in person if that's how you act through a keyboard. One little things sets you off and now I guess my dick is all up in your face.
