6.2L 8 Speed OWNERS! GM UPDATE 15389

Just got my oil changed and was told they just did a recall for the 8-Speed for a update to the controller. It does put it back to learn mode for a while I was told, not sure what all it changed. I will see how it feels in about a week. My wife is currently driving so no current review either.

Got a hold of GM and this was it, thanks to Silver Sled as well.: The recall number for the 8 speeds is 15389. It is for Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) shudder. That's all I know. There is no other info on the recall yet. I don't know if it's a reprogram or replacing something. I'll try and keep an eye out and see when it gets updated.

MORE DIGGING:

From Live Chat: "This bulletin 15389 provides a service procedure to reprogram the transmission control module (TCM) on certain 2015 model year Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Yukon Denali and Yukon Denali XL vehicles equipped with an 8L90 8-Speed (M5U) transmission and 6.2L (L86) engine. These vehicles may have a condition in which transmission calibration allows a higher than target energy input to the torque converter clutch (TCC) under certain conditions. This may lead to faster than expected torque converter clutch material wear, and a shudder feeling when the TCC is applied."

Do you have a service number? I had an update applied to mine less then 2 weeks ago, but not sure how recent this update is.

Not sure, my wife works at the dealership, so she just called and said we updated your transmission. And she supposedly checked last week and said there wasn't one. I assuming its pretty new.

Good luck! Let us know how it works out!

Just FYI, you're about to get ate up by those swearing up and down that these transmissions can't "learn".

Who says they can't learn? They have been able to learn for a LONG time, like since early 2000s at least.

Now if you think they can learn anything other than shift pressures then we're gonna fight!

Shift points/location (MPH/RPM) are fixed. Shift speeds (lethargic vs kapowee) are also fixed.

Mine was in today as well. Clunky shifting was one of the things they were to look at.

No mention of any available update either in conversation or paperwork.

I find it irritating that some people get these updates but when I ask my dealership they know nothing either. I just asked mine about a mylink update and a Bluetooth issue that others had fixed and my dealership knows nothing.

The most irritating thing is posts like this, hey i took my truck into the dealer and they did all this work but guess what I have no idea what they did. I didn't have to sign a single document authorizing the work and I wasn't provided anything about the warranty coverage

Every dealer I have been to for any kind of service honda acura gm cadillac (including changing oil at walmart in my civic and buying tires at discount) they give a detailed list of what they did.

I agree with you, it should refer to the service bulletin on the invoice. But I have several invoices from my dealer with no description of any work done. A lot of NPF (no problem found). Some have very detailed descriptions so apparently standards are pretty loose.

Well, I got no service ticket, like I said my wife literally just took it to work with her and got the oil changed. So honestly I could care less if I got one or not since I only went in for a oil change. Just letting the other guys on here know that there IS an update out there.

Whats really irritating is when someone comes on to your post being a baby they you didn't give them the info you wanted, but you still post something that pertains nothing to what the original post was about.

As for a difference, it seems to shift down a lot more when slowing down, and firmer shifts. We will see how it goes.

Is this what my update was supposed to fix?
