6.2L 8 Speed OWNERS! GM UPDATE 15389

The recall number for the 8 speeds is 15389. It is for Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) shudder. That's all I know. There is no other info on the recall yet. I don't know if it's a reprogram or replacing something. I'll try and keep an eye out and see when it gets updated.

When my wife called I did ask if they ordered parts and she said no its just a "computer update", I'm sure she doesn't know the difference with the TCM, etc.

I don't know what the factory changes are for a given update. I can't see all the tables yet for the 8L90E. Either way, it's interesting that they said it is for TCC issues, since that is what I changed in mine to make it feel better.

From Live Chat: "This bulletin 15389 provides a service procedure to reprogram the transmission control module (TCM) on certain 2015 model year Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Yukon Denali and Yukon Denali XL vehicles equipped with an 8L90 8-Speed (M5U) transmission and 6.2L (L86) engine. These vehicles may have a condition in which transmission calibration allows a higher than target energy input to the torque converter clutch (TCC) under certain conditions. This may lead to faster than expected torque converter clutch material wear, and a shudder feeling when the TCC is applied."

Well, I got no service ticket, like I said my wife literally just took it to work with her and got the oil changed. So honestly I could care less if I got one or not since I only went in for a oil change. Just letting the other guys on here know that there IS an update out there.

 

Whats really irritating is when someone comes on to your post being a baby they you didn't give them the info you wanted, but you still post something that pertains nothing to what the original post was about.

 

 

As for a difference, it seems to shift down a lot more when slowing down, and firmer shifts. We will see how it goes.

No one was being a baby, as you can see there were other people in the thread asking for some kind of information to go off of so they/we can use that info to do some research and call the dealer.

thanks for the info, I called my dealer and they confirmed what you said. The advisor said it has something to do with shuttering during shifting, so hopefully it could clean the shifting up a little bit. He said it was just a reprogram

 

I'm waiting for parts to do recall 15178 and will have 15389 done at the same time

Sounds like they just reduced the TCC apply power, sort of like when you let your clutch out a little more slowly vs dumping it. I don't have access to that in HPTuners yet.

It does apply to your truck. We did an update, but not the recall, at least not technically the recall. Don't worry, as soon as I saw that I pulled your info and was waiting to call you as soon as the recall can be done.

 

There is no info about the recall in GM's computer. It shows for your truck, and when I go to get info on it, it shows nothing. Usually because it's new and will be updated soon hopefully.

There is a programming update for the eight speeds that we did to bboyce's truck, but it is not the recall. I wonder if they did the update to your truck.

I called my dealer earlier today to schedule programming this update, and they found it and set up an appointment to apply it Friday morning. Perhaps some dealers are getting it sent to them sooner, or already have it in the system from selective engineering field tests?

They might have mine under a GM employee thing, who knows with them.

I can pull up the recall, but when I "click" on it, it just reads "no information available at this time for this bulletin or campaign". I usually gives me pages of info. So no matter who I was looking it up for, recall 15389 doesn't give me any info.
