AMP PowerStep with OBD install: avoiding drilling the floor

I've seen mention in other AMP threads here of using the existing grommet in the floor rather than drilling a new hole (as the AMP instructions suggest), but I haven't found confirmation that anybody did it and liked the result. Two questions:

1) Has anybody successfully used that existing grommet in the floor to avoid drilling? At the same time that I install the AMP steps, I will be installing a Pop N Lock for the rear tailgate, for which I will definitely be using that existing grommet. My one concern is that if put too many wires through that one grommet, there will be a perceptible bump in the carpet (if not visible, then one that I can feel with my feet when I get in).

2) Has anybody used another point of entry into the cab, say in the firewall, for the AMP cable that needs to be connected to the OBD port?

Any advice would be appreciated. This will be the first time I attempt anything like this. I pride myself on being very handy for household construction, but my car modding history has been limited to installing after market head units only.

Thanks.

The wires used for the OBD port are small gauge wires. Absolutely nothing wrong with using the grommet for the parking brake. I was forced to use it because I either lost the supplied grommet or it was left out in the packaging. Either way, I feel better about using an existing grommet than drilling a hole. The grommet is plenty big for multiple wires. You're not gonna see or feel these wires. Now had they been 0-4 gauge, then yes.

I used the parking brake grommet all that is going thru is 2 small wires. I dont know why they want you to drill when there is a grommet right there that has more than ample space to use.

+1. I used the same grommet for both AMP PowerSteps and the tailgate lock wiring.

Where is the cheapest place to buy amp steps?

When I bought mine, I was searching the AMP part number (2014 Chevy Silverado, DC, Plug & Play) for a good internet price and P&P had just come out. And then I contacted AMP to see if there was a recommended installer in my area (Austin, TX). They provided a reference based on my zip code and it turned out that they installed the steps for the same price that I found online without installation. My steps were installed the next day! So, my message is search for your part number and go for the best deal you can find - it all seems to be timing...

Where did you buy them? I've asked around and the cheapest i've found is $1499 installed at Texas Hitch&Tuck Center for the plug and play.

Thank you, sir. I'll call them up on Monday. Hopefully they honor that price. (fingers crossed).

You can always do the install yourself and save a few hundred. They are easy to install. I got mine from autoanything for 1202 shipped with the obd harness.
