My Intake Mod

We did rough intake ports in the 70's to keep the boundry layer turbulent so fuel didn't adhere to the ports. I worked at a little place called Mullen & Co. We did some stuff for a lot of Pro Stock cars back then.

This is entirely different. The turbulence is much more pronounce and is proportionate to the depth of the corrugations. This really reduces the flow vs a smooth type duct. Lots of test and analysis has been done. Our flex ducts have deep corrugations. I'd bet dollars to donuts that this is where a big part of the gain that the MIT enjoys, comes from.

I think it will flow almost as well...just without BAWWWWWAAAAHHHHHH sound of the MIT! Larry Meaux has some of the Best Flowing port work I have seen and he dimples the ports like a golf ball for fuel atomizing. That being said would it matter if the ports or intake inlets have a little turbulence being that the fuel is DI'ed into the chamber and really not having to be atomized in the intake as in the past :dunno:

You don't get the "drowning wookie" sound from MIT. It's the open element filter box that produces this.

I absolutly get that noise from my MIT with stock filter. Sounds like a Big Block with a Qjet strapped to it!

Odd... My '14 5.3 had a very minor change in intake note after MIT. I'm guessing you haven't modified your airbox at all...Factor airbox is as designed?

Just put in my order for the 6.2 Intake Manifold, Throttle body and Airaid MIT. Has anyone Port and Polished the 6.2 Throttle Body? Already replaced the stock intake filter with an K&N and planning on modifing the intake box. Seems like alot of sand and dirt gets trapped in the box, any suggestions on how to modify the intake box?

Nope it's been cut open at the entry point below the bellmouth inlet.

Ahhh, I would say that is the majority of your noise

The only noise I have is during heavy throttle not at cruising and it did not get any louder when i did the filter box mod.

The 6.2L throttle body has a fairly nice contour already. I don't think there's a lot left to improve unless you start thinning the butterfly and shaft. There may be a sharp edge or two that can be rounded.

If you are driving where you get dirt and sand in your air box, I'd not recommend that K&N filter. It will let a lot of dirt thru.

I swapped intakes this morning and it was very easy and straight forward and only took 1 hr 5 minutes start to finish. Gains.... none that I noticed just a more pronounced sound from the Airaid MIT. I did some WOT pulls from a dead stop and some Interstate WOT blast up to the speed limiter and really no difference.

Now I did take a picture of one of the ports and they all looked like the one posted and the Truck is a year old as of 7-25-14 and has less than 4000 miles on the clock with a RX catch can and clean side separator. I'm sure the Headers, LT-1 Cam and 93 octane Tune will bring everything together were it should be.
