My Intake Mod

Just finished the swap, noticed a huge difference but I do have it lifted with 37s so any increase in power is noticeable. Painted the plastic valve covers while I had everything out. 286def6301f9b8b9252132fdba3cbf0e.jpgbd6d11cf47af86ee758a2227edf7d998.jpgcb200f67225febca532b2cb1f8290144.jpg

Have you had this tuned yet?

Have you had this tuned yet?

I just did the data log today and sending it off to Justin at BlackBear tomorrow. Hope the turn around is soon. I already have it tuned just not with these upgrades yet. Along with the manifold and TB I switched out the intake for the airraid MIT.

I swapped intakes this morning and it was very easy and straight forward and only took 1 hr 5 minutes start to finish. Gains.... none that I noticed just a more pronounced sound from the Airaid MIT. I did some WOT pulls from a dead stop and some Interstate WOT blast up to the speed limiter and really no difference.

Now I did take a picture of one of the ports and they all looked like the one posted and the Truck is a year old as of 7-25-14 and has less than 4000 miles on the clock with a RX catch can and clean side separator. I'm sure the Headers, LT-1 Cam and 93 octane Tune will bring everything together were it should be.

You're RX Catch Can is clearly doing it's job! That is how all of our intake valves should look. Like TDT, I did not hear much change after installing the MIT but when the air box was opened below the bell mouth, that is when the intake sound went up substantially. I bet if one of you guys with a 5.3 would do some dyno pulls before and after the 6.2 intake/TB install and then update your tune to account for the additional airflow, you will see a worthwhile gain in performance.

Tune is next for me.

Really intrigued weather the LT1 manifold will produce sustainable gains. Its a very cheap upgrade and I'm hoping that paired with headers and intake will produce positive gains.

From what I can tell, the LT1 corvette manifold may have shorter runners for a higher rpm tune range. What do you give up? And what do you get? I dunno. But there is a thread on putting the corvette manifold on the 6.2 truck. My recollection was that his comments were positive.

I suppose it boils down to what you want from your truck.

The LT1 manifold complete installation will be about 2-3 times the cost of L83 to L86 manifold swap, due to all the extra parts needed.

Digging the painted covers looks like my next to do list

So it's been a few months what's the word on how this mod is working out? Any idea on power gains and affect on mpg?

I enjoy the mod. Not %100 on how much of a power gain there is but I can feel a difference. Fuel economy I have seen a slight increase as long as I don't get on it to much. I have 37 inch tires so my economy sucks anyways. Most weekends I go hunting and its about a 40 min drive to the blind and I average 16-17 on that trip with 93 octane.

Need some dyno tests before and after for this one. Any internal differences of the intake or is it just the opening?
