Maybe a new 6.2?

I'm debating swapping my 2014 5.3 silverado for a 2015 6.2 silverado. My dilemma is gearing. How would the 6.2 with I believe stock 3.23 gearing compare with my curent 5.3 with 3.42? Acceleration, mpg, etc...

The new 15 will have the 8 speed so your final drive ratio is the same or very close I'm sure. That said, your going from 383 lb.-tq to 460. Big jump. You'll notice quite a bit of difference in acceleration. Mpg should be the same (as far as what's on paper).

I would love to move to a 6.2/ 8 speed but if I were to upgrade at this point I would get an HD diesel.

Yeah, I've debated the diesel for 5 months now. It's still a possibility, but it would be a 6.7 superduty. I just love the silverado body/interior in the 1500.

Two things: If you get the NHT option (Max tow) you get 3.42's with the 6.2

Also, the first 4 gears of the 8 speed are 4.56, 2.97, 2.08, 1.69. The first 3 gears of the 6 speed are 4.03, 2.36, 1.53

That means you basically have an extra gear to work with and the first gear is shorter so the 3.23 acts more like a 3.73 in 1st gear and 4.10 in 2nd and 3rd!

I hope all the transmission issues I've read about are cleared up with the 8 speed.

all i can tell you going from a 6.2 6 speed to a 6.2 8 speed is night and day different. i love the 8 speed. it shifts great, never has to use the upper rpm in normal driving and i know no one will believe this, but i managed to get 30 mpg on my way to denver on the 25 mile average and i think 26 mpg on the 50 mile average. in town im getting 18 mpg easily with the 8 speed.

i have no complaints. the trans is a little lumpy shifting at slow speeds but i is not obvious unless your paying close attention to it.

Impressive. Heck of lot better than my 14' 5.3, of course heavier wheels/tires contribute to my 14 mpg. If I get a 6.2, I plan to run stock wheels/tires. Of course I say that about every new truck I've had.

If you're going from a 5.3 to a 6.2 you'll love it. I have a 6.2 with the 3.42 (not max tow) and at first I loved it. Then I had my truck tuned and loved it twice as much. Then tragedy struck and I had the tune removed and now it's back to normal. I like it. Makes me wish I got the old max tow package with the 3.73's + a tune = match made in heaven. Point is, once you go from a smaller engine to a larger one you'll feel the power difference and you'll love it. Just don't go backwards or you'll begin to question how you even drove something like that before.

If you can, I'd go to the 6.2. I love my 6.2 8 speed combo. The transmission is good, I wouldn't even let that be a concern while Deciding. I get between 16 and 17 mpg mostly city with stop lights every mile. Hand calculated. I am very happy.

I did not know you could get 3 42 without NHT.
