2015 GMC Sierra Clicking sound

Hey guys, I am a new owner to a 2015 gmc sierra all terrain and I have a clicking noise during acceleration! I know I'm not the only one to have this issue but have yet to hear if anyone has figured out what it is. The clicking sound is coming from the rear of the truck. It occurs when I accelerate from a dead stop. It will click once and that is it. Does it almost everytime I stop and start. I got it to do it once by just nudging the truck back and forth while in park. The sound is in the rear area forsure. Either u joint? leaf spring?drive shaft? or even slip yoke? it is hard to pin point the location.

So if anyone else has a clicking noise during acceleration, please chim in! Would like to get this annoying sound fixed!

Oh, you can only hear it with the windows down in the truck. With the windows up, you cannot hear the click. Truck has 4000 km

I just picked up my truck from the Chevy dealership who replaced the driveshaft with the same issue.I was on the phone on the way home and did not pay attention to see if the click was still there. Mine was happening after I reached 30 + mph and came to a full stop then accelerated.I will test it tomorrow and post an update.

Click is still there. How hard is it for the dealership to follow directions?

I left explicit directions on how to duplicate the issue. They heard the noise on their initial diagnoses so it seems to reason they would test the truck the same way they diagnosed it.

Being in the service industry I get that it may take a few times to properly diagnose a problem. I don't get not testing thoroughly after a repair.

I only live three miles from the dealership and I can duplicate the issue every time after the alleged repair.

Back to the dealership so they can replace another random part.

Rant over for now.

To be continued.

I had that noise. Drove me nuts. You can reproduce it by loading up on the driveline with the brakes held. It was the leaf spring ubolts not torqued anywhere near to spec. If you look around at some of the other hot threads, you'll see lots of people with similar noises.

If you are able and have a torque wrench, get under it, and see if they are torqued to 78ft/lbs. My money is on they are not. If not, torque them up in a criss-cross pattern on each side. Then go for a drive and see what happens.

Good luck!

Can you tell me where you found it's supposed to be 78ft/lbs? I just went under my truck and set the wrench to 50 and got about a 1/4 turn out of each nut. I am going to find out on my way to work tomorrow if that made a difference. I will report my findings tomorrow.

There's a thread on this subforum that lists it that a quick search isn't bringing up. Go look through the rear end clunk threads for more info. Personally, I got that info from the dealership when they originally tightened up mine because of the noise.

Your source sounds good to me. Thank you. Looks like I gotta crawl back under there lol. I wonder if them not being torqued correctly could potentially be a safety hazard?

UPDATE: I heard the clicking sound once this morning on my way to work. That's less than I used to hear it. Remember, I did not torque to 78ft/lbs yet.

Well I tightened my u-bolts with no change. I then added the leaf spring clamps just to try because I am out of ideas. Now after being on for 3 days, I would say that the clicking sound is better, however it isnt fully gone. Only clicks on occasion now compared to every stop sign or light. So I think it is our slip yokes snapping/clicking. Dont know if they have a fix for it because I heard you cant pack these new yokes with grease. If anyone knows anything different let me know.

My understanding from a TSB I read months ago is the 2WD slip yokes can be greased, but the 4WD ones cannot. The design will allow grease to get into the transfer case and cause problems. At most, you can lubricate the 4WD slip yokes with the same ATF used in the transfer case, but that won't help much as the ATF is too thin to make anything better. Perhaps someone else that has the TSB handy can give a link to it.

From what you described, I had the same problem with my 2014 Silverado LTZ. Took it to 3 different dealerships befroe they figured out it was a U joint & bearing that had gone bad. Good luck

It is the aluminum drive shaft and needs to be replaced. This happened with the past generation trucks and there was a TSB for it but no bulletin for ours yet. My dealer replaced mine and it went away - however it's back after about 500 miles with the new one :(

That's 2 generations ago. What about 2007 thru 2013?

It's still the same problem. GM just hasn't been proactive about it in the last models. My service manager pulled that bulletin up and told me "I think this is your problem" so let's try replacing the drive shaft and sure enough it took care of it.
