Silverado LT halogen headlight upgrade

Recommended Posts

I have been looking at almost all the topics here, but can't seem to find an answer. When I try and see what options I have available for upgrading my headlights, everyone talks about HID or LED. However, I have seen a common response that LED will not work on the LT lights. So what I'm asking is, what halogens are the best for upgrading the regular housing LT lights? I don't want to go the HID route or want to buy expensive new housing just to put the LEDs in. So any luck with getting these LT's to look a little better? Thanks for the help.

H11 to H9 upgrade is the best bang for the buck.

I was less than impressed with OPT7 LED headlights in my LT.

Does the H9 need any modification?

What is the advantage of the H9 over the H11? More output, better options, etc?

I think the H9 is a high beam bulb in the low beam socket.

Correct. H9 is the high beam equivalent of an H11. It has no built in glare cap, but that doesn't matter as our headlamps have a built-in glare cap. You get considerably more light with the same sharp cutoff.

You can also upgrade the 9005 high beams to 9011 bulbs (current replacement for the old HIR bulbs):

I've got both and while they are not as blingy as HID or LED lighting with 5000K+ color, they are a considerable increase in output without extra glare or modifications to your headlights or wiring. When I searched Phillips is the current recommendation for H9 and 9011 bulbs. Some 9011's aren't much brighter than 9005's.

The h9 conversion is a noticeable improvement for the LT headlights.

I've also subbed 894 bulbs for the sorry 921 reverse bulbs. Check the link for how to mod the 894s. http://www.skidmore.edu/~pdwyer/e/backup_bulbs.htm

No melting issues on my lenses and no blown fuses. I've had them installed for nearly a year now too.

Haven't search here but good reviews for Philips Brand on Amazon.
