Gmc a/c smell & cabin air filter

My 2014 will smell like a dead animal for about 4 minutes when it sits for 4 days. If it sits for less than that, no issues.

I already changed the cabin air filter once (at about 24/25k) and just attribute it to condensation sitting for a long time.

Does anyone have the tsb about the smell?

Frankly, I don't think they do me much good. My windows are down most of the time, even when it's hot.

Makes sense.

I just spoke with the Service Advisor, he informed me that they were able to duplicate my issue and indeed the condensation was not draining correct. They treated the evaporator with the foam and did a programming change on the HVAC system.....

Weird how most everything is serviced with some sort of software update or change these days.

I'd *really* like to know how software influences the condensate drain.

Perhaps it lets in less outside air even with recirc off. Less condensate to drain.

Just had this fixed on my 2015. They applied a coating to the coil and change the software to keep the fan running at a low speed to dry the coil after the engine is shut off.

Had my 14 SLE cabin air filter replaced two days ago and they got debris in the blower motor. Halfway through the fix today, the service writer doubted that was the cause of the weird noise, so I bet him a cup of coffee. HE BUYS!

If I want to replace the filter, how do I avoid doing the same thing?

So I bought my 2015 1500 LT in November with 10k miles, I noticed then on occasion it would have a rank smell- and I attributed it to driving over something dead on the road. I live in KS and its cold so all winter I ran with the heat on- remote start etc. so it started warming up and i've notice the smell more. For a bit when I turn on the AC its bad, when I start it and its just vent only its putrid. I took it to the dealer ship today for an appt to have it looked at and they said they smelled something bad, but didn't really get to look into it today. They advised me to bring it back in next Monday, but they thought it was "probably something dead". I was like well normally things die decompose and stop smelling. So long as the heat is on its fine.... sounds like a cabin air filter to me. would this be a warranty thing?

There's an "Afterblow" (I'm not making this up) function mentioned in some versions of the owner's manual. The purpose is to run the blower on outside air for ~10 minutes after shutdown in an attempt to dry off the evaporator. 10 minutes may or may not be long enough, especially if you're looking at 90+% RH. FWIW, I have not been able to find any evidence of this function in my truck, and have so far forgotten to ask the service people at my dealer if they know about it and what it would take to enable it.

I took my 2014 1500 for musty smell coming from vents two years ago. They did a software change that enables what you mention above. He didn't make it sound like it was something I could have enabled myself. I hear it run from time to time, not sure for how long... but I live in central MN, the battery is 3 years old, and never had an issue as far as that is concerned.
