2014+ Rear bumper removal how to (with pics!)

Ok guys, so I had to swap some bumpers around at work today, so I figured I'd snap a few pics along the way and do a quick write up for anyone wondering how to remove the rear bumper. I have seen quite a few of you guys on here asking how... Pretty simple job, but I hope this helps

obviously I'm using a lift , but can be done on the ground too.. For me I zapped off the rear wheels so I could lower the lift all the way down.

First you need to take off the two nuts and one bolt on each side of the bumper. The nuts are 18mm and the bolt is a 15mm. There are also two 13mm bolts that go through the back of the bumper to the hitch area.

Next there is a bolt that goes up through the frame to the bumper bracket. This is a 21mm

After that I loosened the front two bolts holding the bed to the frame, and removed the rear two bolts on each side. Don't remove the front bolts, you only need to raise the bed slightly to allow room for the bumper brackets to slide out. These are 18mm bolts

Next you need to remove the wiring harness that goes from the tag bulbs to the rear junction block, and I had to remove the wiring harness that plugs into the trailer lights . There could be more depending if you had backup sensors, but this truck didn't

Now I used some jack stands, placed them under the bed and lowered the lift down on them, lifting the bed just enough to slide the bumper out and swap it.

Beautiful! Now I can install my step lights if I decide to do them. Need to work out all the kinks in the truck. If the dealer can't then I'm going and getting a Ram HD

How is it to get it back on? Is it easy to get everything to match back up?

Nice!! If I ever decide to do some flush LED lights on by rear bumper ( :fingersx:) now I kinda know what I'm getting myself into... hahaha

Yeah everything lines right back up, not very much adjustment to the mounting points.

Wish I would have seen this sooner! Just did flush mounts and got my bumpers sprayed with bedliner and it was a pain to take off the rear! We couldn't get the brackets to slide out and we ended up peeling all the plastic off the top of the bumper to get at the bolts holding the bumper to the brackets. Didn't even think to lift the bed. Would have been so much easier. I guess now I know for next time I want to pull it off.

Great write up by the way!
