8 speed on the 5.3 for 2016

This may be old news, but I just learned that the SLT/Denali and the LTZ/High Country will have a standard 8 speed with the 5.3 for 2016.

It should have been available on SLE trim as well. I am not even sure why they offer the 5.3 in the Denali.

Yep. What's unknown is if we can get 3.42 gears with the 8 speed without getting the max trailer package. Build guide has conflicting info on that.

I'd bet that when we get clarification the ratios offered with the 5.3/8spd will end up being the same as 6.2/8spd.

Build guide says 3.08, 3.42 and 3.73. But it is unknown if that is for 6 speed trucks or both. I would settle for 3.23 but 3.08 is gross, even with the 8 speed ratios.

 

3.42, 8 speed 5.3 would be awesome. Max Tow is not a spendy package but you can't get it with the All Terrain or z71

Not that I've tried many, but not a fan of those transmissions I've tried with more than 6 speeds. Just spends too much time hunting between ratios and takes too long to go from idling along in 8th downy to 4th or lower to gimme some power.

I've been really impressed with the 8 speed. By no means does it down shift or hunt gears like my 6 speed. Very nice so far.

The 8 speed is a temporary unit until the 10 speed arrives in 18 or so. The 6 speed has been out for 9 years and counting and is considered one of the better trannys out there

I love my 6 speed and as of right now it shifts and reacts flawlessly and predictable... Until they come out with something that is smooth and acts as a transmission should I have no reason to change.

Where do you get this? 3.08 is standard with 8 speed 5.3

 

Max tow is not available with all terrain or z71 either.

On the trucks where max tow is available the 5.3 8 speed gets the 3.73's and the 6.2 a speed gets the 3.42's
