Should I buy a 1999 GMC K2500?

Looking to buy a 1999 GMC K2500 crew cab with a 5.7L engine. Has 192000 miles. But I currently have a 2004 GMC 3500 Sierra single wheel base with a 6.0L. I love the older body style, but the main reason why I want to get a new truck is because the 04 gets and avg gas of 14mpg. And 10 in city. I just want something with better has but still have the capacity to tow heavy loads. I'm just not sure if this is a good choice and looking for a second opinion. My current truck has the rocker panel rush and some dents, quoted $3,000 to get it fixed. But the 1999 has no rust or body damage. I paid $7,000 for the 04 and put another $1,500 into it. Just not sure what to do. The 1999 is selling for $6,700, but was going to ask if he will take $5,500. Just looking for a second opinion.

So you want to trade to something that might get the same or worse gas mileage and tow slightly less that you can? Better mileage and similar towing either a max trailer 1/2 ton or a diesel.

The 1999 crew cab models are kind of rare especially compared to the 1500 extended cab. You may get 1-2 mpg better mpg with the 5.7 2500. If you want mpg for 5 - 6k. Look for a 96 -98 half ton with 5.7. I get 13 - 14 city 18 - 21 highway at 65 mph. 80MPH = 16

 

I love the old body style crew but the 5.7 is not nearly as responsive in a 2500 drive terrain and truck weight vs 1500. Post some pics of the 1999 so we can check it out!

 

I wold recommend a black bear tune for either truck to get 1mpg more and a lot more response out of either engine.

 

If the 1999 is in great shape, no rust, taken care of, etc. I would go for it.

The only thing is that I'm not sure if it's worth what he's asking for, KBB says $5,500 and nada says $6,500 @ clean retail.

if the main reason you want the truck is MPG i wouldnt get it... 14MPG out of a 3500 6.0 isnt bad, and theres no way that ol 1500 is gonna get more the 14 MPG.
