Just the latest in the "OEM vs EPA" wars. Navistar took a harder hit than VW over their Maxxforce engine issues with the EPA. From a high of around 37.45 in January 2014 down to around 12.10 by October 2014 on Navistar stock. CEO sent down the road and a total restructure of management. And they went with an almost 21% market share to a low of 14% over the same period.

But, boys and girls, this will not be the last. Once the EPA has the taste of blood, they will suck the life out of any OEM they can find fault with. The beast must be fed.

No one needs to like the EPA. Fact is VW screwed up. Don't do that sh.it.

The german KBA (Ministry of Transportation kinda thing) is very strict (thank god) and ordered VW to recall all affected cars. VW offered 'optional repairs* and the KBA said No! So VW has to deal with every single car (in 28 EU countries about 8.5 million).

I think that even VW has to pay a high price they will survive simply because they build good cars. A lot of my friends drive VW / Audi (I love Audi) and most say they're kinda mad but they love their cars and that's it.

I heard that a airbag mislabel cost $5,000 per car in one recall, tracing what units were effected, tracing where the vehicles went etc.

If that's true, VW is a sinking ship.

It's Volkswagen Group not just VW, containing Audi, Porsche, Seat, Bugatti not to forget MAN and Scania etc. Not an easy game but they'll be fine in the end.

You forgot Lamborghini. Which is now under fire for its tractors!

They will get bailed or bought out or helped out, but VW group simply doesn't have have the cash to pay for the fix. Something will have to change.

The cash they announced the had to devote doesn't even cover the estimated fine from the EPA, much less the rest of the world or paying dealers labor for reprogramming

Germany is bailing out Syrians. Might not want to save VW as it is. It could get split up and parted out.

FCA would finally have that company to force a merger with.

All over international news. Taking in a ton of the refugees/migrants (the word used varies, depending on if they want to deal with international convention treaties. If you call someone a refugee you have to treat them differently)

Some attribute it to low birthrate, some to national guilt.
