Short version of a long, sad story...... I need a cab brake light, or maybe even a block off plate that does not protrude rearward. Reason being, I just had a canapy installed, and the damn thing is sitting too far back. I can't move it foward enough to fit flush with the back, and not hit the brake light in the cab.

The canopy is a cab high unit made by Range Rider. It is their Apex Sport model that is suposed to have extended sides that cover the bed rail protectors. The fitment on this isn't great.

I've been surfing the net trying to find a different light, but having had much luck finding one with a side view that will show how flush it will fit the cab.

Gee that was an incredibly helpful response. How would you suggest I fix the canopy, sawzall? Just start hacking away on a $3000 painted fiberglass shell?

You're going to modify your $50,000 truck to get a piss-poor quality aftermarket piece to fit it? I don't understand the logic. Get the correct piece that fits the way it should. You already stated how the fit is not the best.......

Yeah I would contact the company and see why it fits so bad. A camper top made for a tuck should require no modification to fit.

If we're modifying the truck - 2 words - Duct Tape.

All sorts of color options, A tight secure finish.

Get the clear duct tape and keeps the lights for the Euro look. Or use red Tuct tape and still have the appearance of still having the brake light.

All I need is a different light or plate. The light can't even be seen. I hardly consider this "modifying" a 60k truck. Good grief..... Take a look at this light on your trucks. It must stick out a good 1.5".

If I could simply move the cap 3/8" foward, the fitment would be OK. Still not great but good enough.

I've been dealing with the dealer for five months and am worn out (screwed up a simple wheel and tire order too). Winter is here and I just want to be done with this.

It's a stretch... And not even sure where you could find it. Someone who has a 3D scanner and could 3D print you a cover? Just does not sound like something you can just buy, prob gonna have to fabricate it. And the machine shop of the time is a 3D printer.

Seriously now - just go to the dealer, or any dealer if yours is that bad, ask them about the third brake light delete plate. I know you could get it on the previous gens for the 3500s chassis cabs that had cube box conversions mounted or flush mount racks and service boxes. I'm sure the option would still be there.

Thank you! I had no idea there was a light delete option.

And to clarify, the shell was bought from a truck accessories shop, not the GMC dealer.

Maybe there was for previous generations, but nothing is showing as an RPO or SEO for the present truck. I don't know that I've ever seen one. Still seems odd your cap isn't designed to work around the stock lamp. Best of luck...

Are you sure the dealer order the correct canopy for the truck? You go to Range Rider website and they do list any canopy's for the K2XX platform. This could be the reason why it does not fit correctly.

Anything for the 2010-2013 trucks fits on the beds of the 2014+ trucks, the 2014+ truck bed for the short bed is only different than the 2010-2013 beds by about 1/2" in both directions. I wonder if your truck accessories dealer ordered a camper top for a 2010-2013 truck knowing that it would fit on the 2014+ truck.

    • Sounds like converting will be a bigger endeavor than I was thinking. This truck doesn't have 2Hi like the Suburban did. The Tahoe has 4Hi and 4Lo and a button to turn of traction control.   From what I understand the Stabilitrak uses open diff in the front and rear. When wheel speed is not the same the stabilitrak uses the ABS system to slowdown the spinning wheel(s) to transfer power to the slower non-spinning wheel(s). I thought the transfer case was open too. Being able to transfer power either more to front or rear depending on wheel spin. Maybe I miss understood some information with you saying and power transfer is 50-50. Thanks
    • My brother has a 2007 Avalanche with afm 5.3. It`s got 176,000 miles. Runs like a clock. Never been apart. Co worker has a 2010 Tahoe with afm 5.3. 230,000 miles. Never been apart. Runs like a clock. So, even though cyl deac is a weak spot, they can go the distance.   BUT, these engines had the oil changed regularly, AND had 5w30 as spec. I wonder if they would have lasted this far on 0w20? I`ll bet not.
    • I certainly could be wrong but I hear of pickups far newer than that 2007 cutoff which may not be going to the wrecker but are having engine work done and be that a reman engine or new engine or trying to repair the existing engine. Some of it would be design issues as per the cylinder deactivation system that GM has and one of those lifters wiping out the cam and the question of oil changes moving the needle or not on that whole mess, or in the case of Ford pickup engines that have the long timing chains and wearing them out and the roller followers and phasers and some of that certainly goes back to oil change intervals. But in those various cases the truck has all sorts of life left in it and so the unfortunate owner and may be original owner or used market owner that is pouring money into repairs so the truck is not seeing the salvage yard yet but damage is happening by infrequent oil changes. A friends son had bought a 2018 I think it is half ton GM and it had some sort of extended or used dealer warranty on it and of course the lifter issue bites and its rattling and so the dealer had to swallow the bill and was at least 7000.00 and I think they only replaced what they felt they had to replace so yeah, I can see that being a ticking time bomb in the not too distant future. Would frequent oil changes cure all these engineering "marvels", probably not but some engine designs have shown that they do much better if the oil is changed a lot more often then if the manufacturer service claims are followed. New trucks cost so much that there is an incentive to keep the existing truck on the road by repairing.
    • get a good code reader, and find out what problems the truck has noticed by reading codes. cheap ones can only get basic engine codes, you may want to get one that can get codes from all the computers in your truck.
    • This is sort of my point, salvage yards aren't overflowing with all these 'poorly' maintained trucks - excellent/good/servicable condition otherwise, salvaged only as a result of a bad engine from poor oil change regiment.    In my area, there are no 2007 to newer gm trucks/suvs in any salvage yards. A few are in the 'recyclers' with very obvious reasons for being there - wrecked.
