First real review of the 2016's

the final shift into 8th (geared at 0.65:1) drops engine rpm well below that of the 5.3-liter V-8 with the six-speed.

It's only around a 100rpm difference. 5.3 and A8 gets you 3.42 gears. A A6 5.3 with 3.42 spins around 1520rpm at 60mph, a 5.3 A8 would be around 1440rpm.

It's not even that much. 8 speed has a 0.65 final gear and the 6 speed has 0.67, making it 1684rpm vs 1634rpm @ 70mph with a 3.42 rear end. Only 50rpm

I did the math with a 32" tire

That's right lol...for some strange reason the order guide rounded off all the number specs for the transmissions but the powertrain website shows the exact numbers. I ended up working off the .70 knowing that isn't what it is...

You guys are talking over my head!! I understand the outcome and the basics but actually figuring the formula out is beyond me. Either way i would be curious as to how a 5.3 8 spd drives vs a 6 spd.

Are we sure they aren't using 3.23's like with the 6.2L?

(and 3.42 vs 3.73 for max tow)

For 2016, LTZ, High Country and SLT, Denali get the 5.3 / 8A with 3.42 axle ratio. No optional ratio available.

"NHT" option for the 5.3 / 8A gets the 3.42 as well.

I just ordered a '16 Silverado LTZ 5.3 with Max tow package and was trying to figure out the towing capacity. As far as the '16 GMC info goes - still no '16 Chevy specs available -, it only mentions the 3.42 4wd having a 9100 tow capacity. I wonder if they haven't fully updated their site for the 5.3 with 8 speed specs.

Either way, I'm happy to read a positive review of the 5.3/8-speed combo.

I was playing around on the GMC site today trying to build up an All Terrain. Got it built, but GM is not allowing you to have the 6.2L engine on the AT at this time. I also didn't see an option to have the mirror caps and door handles painted to match either as of now.

Should be able to as long as it's an SLT with all terrain.

6.2L is not available on SLE trim.

Might be worth trying at a dealer.

GM's build sites SUCK BALLS! They could hire a college intern for $20 an hour to do a better job. Or at least find problems so that somebody else can fix them. It's so pathetic that a multi-BILLION dollar company can't make their website function for crap. This has been ongoing for years.

2016 1500 cc 6.5' 4wd 5.3 - 9100 with 6 speed, 10700 with 8 speed

See chart for 6 speed, notes at bottom for 8 speed:

Chrysler is just as bad if not worse. Only domestic brand that seems to put the work in online is Ford, though I do not like the new builder layout.

Yeah I tried to build an F150 a couple days ago to compare the costs and gave up after a few minutes. I hate their website.
