Dealer Refused Full Synthetic Oil Change Under Warranty

I took my truck in for the first oil change under warranty. The service advisor said there was no way, no how that ANY GM dealer could do an oil change under warranty and "upgrade" to Mobil 1 full synthetic for a small fee. He said it was not possible to bill it that way, that GM would ONLY accept a warranty charge for the dexos blend, and that there was NO way he could charge me just the "upcharge" for full synthetic. He said I would have to pay full price for all eight (or eight and a half or whatever it is now) quarts of Mobil 1 and he could give me a free filter and labor.

I swear I see people post on here every day that they just paid the "difference" of $30-$40 to upgrade to full synthetic but the dealer I was at said it was not possible and we talked about it for a solid 10-15 minutes. It would have been like $75 for the Mobil 1 oil change.

Any ideas or advice, or am I missing something? Are you people paying full price for in-house dexos full synthetic and it's just that much cheaper than the Mobil 1 brand name that I asked for? Or are people really just paying the small upcharge for the price difference?

The closest GM dealer is about an hour and a half away, and I just happened to be in the area otherwise it's not worth the drive and I wouldn't bother with a dealership.

The dealer is only allowed to submit the claim for the free maintenance based on what GM lists for the required/recommended oil for your vehicle. So, 5.3 and 6.2 trucks, they have to have a GM part # for Dexos 0w20. If a Mobil1 part # is on there, they will reject the claim.

We do it for people here. We bill GM as if it was a normal Dexos oil change, bill the customer the diff for the mobil 1, then parts has to make the inventory adjustment.

Correct, if the dealer wants GM to pay for the maintenance change it has to be for the stock part # for the required oil. If the other dealers are doing an upgrade they have to code it out differently otherwise if GM investigates that warranty claim they could deny it.

IF I was going to let the dealership change my oil, they would put in the oil that I told him to, or I would not let them change it. I told my dealer when I bought my truck that they were not to wash it, clean it, don't install any of the dealership stickers, and the free oil changes would not be used.

I paid $32 to upgrade to full synthetic. I don't have my ticket in front of me but they did note something like a "warranty deductible" or some type of "deductible" which is what the $32 was for.

It's just easier to do it yourself. Less time, no BS and you know exactly what you are getting.

I see it a different way. If I'm under a GM warrantee, I'll put in what GM recommends. To me, it's not the end of the world what oil I have in my truck - especially when I'm still running the free oil changes for a couple more years.

If other people aren't going to use them, hell, sign them over to me and I'll continue to run them when my additional ones run out.

GM reccomends Dexos 1 approved 0W-20. They make no reccomendation on synthetic blend vs full synthetic as far as I know

It's all about the dealer. Some are willing to work with you and some aren't. Simple as that. My local dealer that my family has done a lot of business with over the years is willing to pull all kinds of strings for me. I've taken my trucks to other dealers who won't.
