Not just us, tranny issues

Everyone wants better gas mileage. If GM can gain 1 mpg by making the trans act like junk.. they will. MPG is top priority for most truck buyers.

For me... I could care less about MPG and would rather have my old turbo 400 in my K5.

I was happy with 410's and a four speed. The six speed is ok but I do not want an 8 speed. More parts equals more to go wrong.

I really wish I could buy a brand new 1995 Z71.

Oddly enough the 8-speed is lighter, stronger, and requires less power. Granted the tuning sucks but that is the epa, get it tuned and good to go.

I also miss my 2002 4 speed with 4.10 gears. Shifted predictably and when it should and never gave me any problems. My 2012 F150 work truck also has a very crappy transmission and IMO is worse than my chevy except when my silverado does that really hard 1-2 or 2-1 shift.

I hated the 4-speeds! Huge gaps between gears. 6 is great and 8 is even better.

Not sold on 9 or 10 yet. Drove a rental Chrysler 200 with the 9 speed for a month, it was a mess. Then again it was a Chrysler...

I don't know why everybody blames the EPA for the poor engineering of the car makers...

It's not poor engineering. It's poor results from the best engineering possible under burdensome EPA regulations and staying competitive with pricing in the market.

Ugh mileage requirements...

Not going to get 20mpg with the motor reved out where it can make power.

You don't really think the GM engineer's enjoy having the motor bogged down with zero throttle response either do you?

Well...when this is all, what they can come up with...

The article is about transmission defects.

Happy with my 6 speed. No issues with it. By the time I'm ready for another truck, I'm sure their 8 speed will have any kinks worked out. Hell, they may even have a long-tested 10 speed by the time I'm ready for another truck. But I sorta agree with the above comment about More Gears equals more potential problems........

I can tell you from driving a German build performance vehicle for a month now, it is not just GM that is having to play the games with the programming. Our new car is an Audi SQ5 with an 8spd auto. When in auto mode it is very sluggish on the throttle and the shifts are almost unseen, for having 355 supercharged horsepower it drives like a 150hp econobox. Put it in sport mode and it is like a whole different vehicle, shifts are held out longer, throttle is more responsive, shifts are faster and firmer.

So yes it is entirely and completely because of the Obama/EPA requirements that we have such crappy shifting transmissions, as said if you don't like it then find a tuner who will tune it out.
