2016 Locking Tailgate on 2014+?

Has anyone looked in to installing a 2016 OEM locking tailgate on their 2014 or 2015? I know there are aftermarket solutions. Would prefer GM OEM if it can be done.

Would probably require BCM programming. Aftermarket is likely the best you will get.

+1. Pop&Lock is easy DIY, works well, and cheap at circa $110. Feels OEM.

The keylock is also different. (of course it can probably also be changed).

 

On the 16, the keyslot is always vertical when the key is removed. Turn one way to lock, the other to unlock, but must be vertical to remove key.

 

Therefore, can't tell whether locked or unlocked by looking at keyslot.

The P&L install results in the same vertical locking position post-install (fonduepot's video shows it as well). I'd bet the P&L is the GMC solution, or at least they copied the same basic wiring loom and locking mechanism behind the tailgate hatch door.

I put in a Pop&Lock found it on sale as well.

 

Easy to install and works great.

 

The OEM one will not be as plug and play and you will end up having to run more wires back to it regardless.
