Do you guys get flashed a lot?

I've had a few people in the last month flash their high beams at me and I'm wondering if the low beams being "stacked" above the high beams on our trucks may be causing people to think the high beams are on just because they are the higher lights?

 

Now... I did re-aim them right after buying my truck last spring (becuase the lights suck compared to the projection lights I had on my last car) and then I did lower the rear suspension... so I'm sure I deserved the few two times it happened. But I have since aimed them noticably lower and I still had someone flash me.

 

Have you guys had any issues? and how do you like to aim your lights?

I took the spacer block from the rear of mine, but I've never been flashed. (darn it)

Nope. Lights are way too dim on low to ever have anyone flash me. No confusing high and low beams on these lol. The Gmc's are so pathetic that a lot of guys just leave their highs on... and still don't get flashed. At least the Chev like mine has the second bulb.

I notice with my vehicles since 2011 that if you are going up a slight incline the people coming at you think you have you highs on. I notice the same when they are coming at me on secondary roads. When I ask the dealer they say lights are normal I just lower them a little.

I have a Sierra and after the ECU update and Volsla bulbs I get flashed every night. I adjusted them up a little (not even half rotation) because they were so poor before the update so I need to adjust them down again. I'm still not that impressed with the light output...

a truck being good will get the flashes.

 

I have a 96 that lights up 2 miles ahead (I am not kidding)

 

those tiny lights known for being dim..

 

 

its not up or down as much as peripheral. Aim the driver side against towards the middle after getting them right.

Every d*mn night. It's getting really annoying. I have a 7" lift though, so I guess it comes with the territory. I did adjust them down but still get flashed constantly.....at which time I give them a dose of the actual brights hahah.

Don't they have headlight height laws where you are? I think they add hidden headlights under the bumper on those really tall trucks.

 

 

I bought a set of aftermarket fog lights to help illuminate things. There's not much to bolt to though so I'll have to build some brackets to locate them in the factory spots.

Your 2012 has decent reflector lights. Yeah they're not projectors. But at least they're not weak halogen projectors like the 14-15 Sierra. You can do a bulb upgrade (still halogen) from the stock one and increase the light significantly with good beam control (unlike a HID in a reflector).

 

To aim them, find a level and very smooth parking lot or road. Measure to the center of the headlight from the ground on both sides. Go out in front about a length of the truck, use something like a large sheet of cardboard for the beam to project onto, Place the sheet of cardboard on the ground and measure up to the cutoff. It should be noticeably lower than the center of the headlight. About 4" lower should be around the right amount. Due to irregularities of the surface of the pavement, you can get variability in the measurements. You should check it in several locations (various surfaces).

You also have to adjust the sideways aim of the headlight.

Low beams should be aimed slightly to the right.

 

If you are aiming your headlights as spurshot has suggested above you also need to adjust the light slightly to the right about 2-4 inches. this will require you to make sure that the vehicle is perpendicular to the surface you are aiming at. Mark the aiming surface where the center or the sides of your vehicle would be located for a measuring reference.

Lol. Everyday! At least. I drive a 2014 Silverado. Drivers flash me all the time. Kinda annoying. I flash my highs so they can the difference ?
