$325 for muffler install?

Recommended Posts

Went to a local muffler shop for a quote on a super 40 flowmaster just a muffler swap, the owner said to do it the right way I should swap the muffler and add 3in pipe and a new tip for 325, seemed really high to me. I remember doing that to my old truck in 2001 for 150 but after lurking on this site I have seen some just do a muffler swap. Whats the deal? recommendations?

* Just looking for sound in particular

That's a good average price, previous exhaust system welded on my tuck Magnaflow dual to rear with 3.5"x16" chrome tips $380. 3 inch pipe has a mellow tone , Don't know what year truck you have, if you take off the flapper wapper valve will have chopping sound in 4V mode. There are numerous threads and post on this subject

My muffler guy charges me $35 to install with me providing my spintech muffler. And he's a legit install guy.

This is what I was thinking, what size pipe inlet and exit do I need?

After watching hours of videos on youtube, I decided to hack off the muffler and weld in a piece of pipe. Considering there are 3 cats and a resonator its still fairly quiet. But it sounds pretty darn good! It will get me by until I can get true duals and a set of borlas. Realistically u could have a shop do the "muffler delete" for under 60 bucks. My shop quoted me a magnaflow muffler and install to be 180 bucks, keeping factory pipe size and everything else factory in place. If u choose to do the muffler delete option, just make sure you retain your flapper valve.

I planned on cutting out the flapper valve. Im basically trying to avoid the helicopter drone in V4, will leaving the flapper on eliminate the helicopter sound? Just doing a straight swap of stock muffler to flowmaster
