front parking sensors - false beep

You guys ever get random false beeping from the front parking sensors when it's raining? or they are wet?

I noticed this twice on my new truck ... when I had it out in the rain for the first time. Never had it happen on the old 2014 I had. Just curious.

Haven't had a problem with just rain yet. But they are completely useless during the winter as it seems moisture gets inside them and freezes.

Mine freeze over and show I am up against something when I slow down a lot..... like the fronts are always faulting lol. I clean them but any moisture that can frost over them and they are all screwed up again. I just get used to shutting them off on the switch.

once in a while from rain but snow seems to be the biggest issue I have

Hello,

Just joined up and wanted to chime in on this topic. Had picked up a "15" GMC Sierra 1500 tow max with the 6.2 about 6 weeks ago. Was finally able to find a truck that had enough year end rebates that I could afford. Absolutely love the truck, other than the front center sensors freezing up. It appears each time we get enough to collect on the lower fascia and then drips down to the center sensors. Anyway, this puts the truck into a mode where every time I park and restart, it trips the proximity warning chime.

Finally stopped by me selling dealer earlier today. Told the service writer and then the mechanic who was somewhat sympathetic with my concerns that the problem was consistent and having some "minuscule" amount of ice on the front bumper area was certainly not realistic.

What does anyone know about the "big" picture with this problem? Thought GM put new vehicles through arctic testing to test for issues like several of us are experiencing.. Having to turn the parking sensors off each time or go outside and hold my hand over the sensor to melt off the "skim" of ice is not tolerable knowing what these silly things cost…..

Anyone know someone higher up the ladder?

This is my second winter with my truck. I didn't have this problem until last week. It rained and then turned cold. I got the false beep and then obstructed sensor error message for about 3 days. Then it warmed up and the problem went away. I have an appointment at the dealer for tomorrow, but now that the problem has ceased, I'll probably cancel. I don't want to waste time for them to tell me that they can't duplicate the problem. I'll wait until it happens again and take it in.

Any brand of truck with them does the same thing. ... Ford, GM, Dodge, Toyota, Nissan... whatever. It's a simple sonar based sensor and ice interferes with it as it blocks it's signal reflection. There is no fix for that beyond cleaning them off, parking the truck where it is warm and letting it thaw etc. There is no problem with either of your trucks so don't waste your dealerships time.... mud also does the same thing.... mind you most people here never drive through it so they wouldn't know. You turn the sensors off and deal with it, case closed. If that is unacceptable or too much effort or whatever sell the truck... and buy one without park assist sensors. Yes they annoy me too as mine are froze up constantly and beeping.... just like my Toyota and my Fords before... but I park inside, they thaw and work again for a while at least the next day.

Seiously? I don't know why this topic set you off, but you're wrong. There was more snow and ice here last winter than the current one. My truck was iced over a lot. I never had a problem until last week. The problem started after some heavy rainfall. When I got the error message, I wiped the sensors off. It didn't help. It appears to me that water got inside a sensor where it couldn't be wiped off. The problem ceased when the sensor dried out. I won't waste my time going to the dealer until the problem repeats so that the dealer can determine which sensor isn't sealed. I agree that this isn't the biggest problem in the world. However, I don't believe for a second that every brand does the same thing or that this is normal.

Yours may have an issue but for the rest of the world and myself included it's life. The only person set off is you... and the comment you homed in on and quoted isnt even directed at you.... did you say it was unacceptable to have to shut them off? No, you didn't..... But the guys quote above yours did. I directed it towards the first poster, so just calm down lol. But even saying that people on this forum get so wound up about things that aren't even problems it's not even funny. If you have a damaged sensor I agree to get it wet and swap the faulty one.

I'm calm. It just seemed odd to me to suggest that someone should sell a truck for asking about a problem. It sounded like you were basically saying "quit whining." The question seems legit to me and I noticed similar behavior. It isn't normal or it would have happened to me last winter when the weather was worse. I will patiently wait until it happens again and then have it checked out. I'll post an update if there's a repair. Have a marvelous afternoon.

Hey guys,

I certainly didn't post this concern as a "I hate my truck" type of comment. Simply needed to see if anyone has had a similar problem. Also, I hate to disagree with your comment that "all" brands have this same dilemma. I know what I'm setting myself up for with the next comment, but my 08' Tundra Limited I had, never had any issues like this… And before you can say it, No, I bought the GMC on purpose…

Again, I'm simply looking for a remedy, not to bash anyone. Actually, this truck is absolutely fantastic. It does everything else perfect, and heck If I could disable the front proximity feature I would…

Looking for constructive feedback, not a fist-fight!

Well I happen to own a 2015 Tundra with front park assist and it does the exact same thing as the Chev... so yes it does happen to other brands... including the holy grail of Toyota. Ice on a sonar based sensor will block the signal so unless you add a heating element to it to keep them clean it is what is. Clean the sensors off and just keep going. Now unless you are experiencing where they are clean and clear and still alarming which points to a sensor fault.
