Auto door locks

I wish to have the control, not have the doors autolock when taken out of park or with speed.

Is there any way to do this yet?

Has anyone successfully had their BCM reprogrammed?

Has anyone discovered a physical workaround to it?

My dealer is "looking into it", but I think they are hoping I will just let it go. Had I known going in that it couldn't be done on this series of trucks, I would have went to another manufacturer this time.

Our company has been buying GM for over 35 years, but that may end if GM continues with the nanny attitude.

I had the reprogram on my 2010... still haven't seen a fix for my 2014.

Only fix will be if gm creates a bcm patch for it.

I also hate this feature.

This was has been gone over many times, as it is a common question.

It can no longer be done unless you have aftermarket programming.

What many don't know however, is that pulling on the door handle twice will open the door.

First pull unlocks and second pull opens the door.

For some this is better than putting it in park or using the unlock button.

Tell me more about this aftermarket programming.

Sorry to have mislead you. I don't know that someone offers it, just that GM doesn't.

I think it's fixed. Two days with no side affects so far. I tried to replicate every situation I could think of. Simply opened the circuit that powers the door lock solenoids. The BCM is none the wiser.

Do you still have power locking capability? Which circuit?

What I can't figure out is why you would even go through all that just so the doors don't lock? Like stated above to open the doors just lift the handle twice and the door open or just once to lift the lock. Just wondering, not trying to be a pain. It's your truck so you should be able to have it the way you like.

Try getting in the truck that way..... OK, here's the scenario anybody on a farm, ranch, construction site or anywhere else there are fences and gates goes through thousands of times a year:

You pull up to the gate and stop, your passenger gets out and opens the gate. You pull through and stop, your passenger gets back in after closing the gate. It's a pretty simple process. It shouldn't require deep thought, planning or a whole lot of training. Here's how it goes with these stupid autolocks:

You pull up the to the gate, the passenger pulls the handle and puts his shoulder into the door to open it the way decades of muscle memory has trained him and it doesn't budge. "Ow! WTF! The doors are locked!" You explain you have to pull the handle twice, because that makes so much sense. He looks at you like you have three eyes.

After he closes the gate you are startled by the passenger banging on the door because the truck locked the door again as you drove forward 20 ft and you didn't put the damn thing park or hit the unlock button fast enough. "I'm locked out a$$hole! I even pulled the damn handle twice!" You can remember to do it perfectly 1000 times, but the one time you get distracted and forget is enough to get plenty of lip for it.

While it may sound a bit comical, it gets really, really old after the first few hundred times. Having to "re-train" every passenger you ever take with you on how to open the door of your truck is ridiculous. Opening the damn door should not require training. The older trucks and other brands with autolocking doors can be set so they don't lock them until 15-20 MPH or so, so this is never a problem.

No, it kills the lock solenoids. I only kill the circuit when driving, you could do it manually with a switch. I put it on a relay that is energized with ignition power. I also added an override switch to put it back to normal for town driving or when I have the kids in the truck.

It is fuse BCM 8.

That's a great idea, thanks for the info. I want to get the BCM reprogrammed but if that falls through this sounds like a good fallback plan. About the only downside I can think of is if carjackers are approaching you'll need to hit the switch before you can lock them out.

    • You're better read than that Atlas. 😏   British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke formulated three adages that are known as Clarke's three laws, of which the third law – that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic" – is the best known and most widely cited.   Stribeck and the pivotable Hersey Number isn't voodoo nor snake oil. That part is physics. It's what marketing and bean counters do with it that is snake oil and voodoo.    Stribeck is the relationship between Hersey and the Coefficient of Friction. Within the Hersey Equation if viscosity and viscosity is 'Dependent' on.......heat.......and.......viscosity index or the temperature to viscosity slope.    Specifically Hersey is the viscosity AT THE TEMPERATURE IN THAT LOCATION FOR THAT SLOPE.   Hydrodynamic lubrication exist when the film thickness in the location is 3X the Ra roughness of the surface. This is irrespective of the hardness of the substrate. To obtain that thickness X viscosity is required for Y velocity at Z load. That's a lot of moving parts. It is also impossible to maintain in an ICE but nearly possible with a turbine under constant load.    What does that mean? Error heavy and operate light. Wear is inevitable but the rate of wear and the milage obtainable are a function of prevailing conditions and HABITS. The only penalty is viscous drag and at fractions so low as to be well worth the effort. Double the life, half the manufacturing carbon foot print. Greed is the only impediment.    The materials generated by SwRI are the RESULT not an estimation or a hypothesis.    Don't delude yourself sir, EV's have as many pitfalls as ICE's. We just don't know what they are yet and it will take longer to sort as MARKETING and GREEDY CEO's have had more time to polish the turd they are selling.
    • You can always count on greed to prey on ignorance and stupidity.    Friend bought a 2019 Ford Flex and asked me about using Valvoline R&P 5W30 in it. Told him give the miles on it and the fact it wasn't yet using oil that it was a good plan. He uses a Valvoline quick change shop for his oil service.   First they tell him that isn't the oil the OEM recommends. He told them he didn't care what the OEM thought. Then they floated the, "But it will void your warranty"    His reply was it's a 2019, there is no warranty and informed them their knowledge of the law was lacking.    Then they tell him 'But it will ruin your motor"!.    Mine to ruin he says. Finally they give in and charge him 150% the semi-syn price    Point it the brainwash is so embedded that even the service industry is drunk on their swill. The public is right behind them. Echoing the same lies on every forum and media platform. If the end goal is indeed EV then I'd say that ship is about built.
    • Diesel hit $6.00 here today at the truck stop.   Payed $2.79 for E85 today too.
