Ice warning

For those of you in the cooler climate, when do you see the ice warning? As soon as you start the vehicle when it is below 34 or randomly while driving? Mine is pretty random. Anywhere from right away to several miles down the road. This weekend it was -18F and I still did not get the message right away.

I was up in Breezy Point this weekend, truck read -24. This ice message is annoying. Kinda obvious you're going to have ice when it's negative outside.

 

Mine typically comes on right away if I am starting the truck outside. However, if I am in the garage, I don't get the message until I'm down the road a ways.

Around freezing temps it pops up. No discernible temperature that I can recall.

Mine is always randomly telling me with no logic. I mean if if's -10C no duh there's going to be ice. I wonder if I can ask the dealer to turn this off permanently?

I doubt they can turn it off. I assume it is a safety feature that they are required to tell you if it is cold enough to be icy. Wonder if I can slide it off the road before the message shows up and blame the fact that the truck didn't tell me it was icy.

Mine usually come on when it hits 33 degrees. But whenever it is under that temp, like in the negatives, it seems to come on randomly.

had my truck in my shop for 4 hours on the weekend, when i started it to put it outside it still gave me the ice warning. i would really like to know where the sensor is

It's usually behind the grill but unplugging it will disable your outside temperature display and may screw with the climate control.

It's in the front grille.
