Try to Convince Me

I'm sure it'll fit, but you'd have to move the front seat up. It would depend on the size of the person sitting in the front seat. The front leg room of these trucks is immense. I'm 6'4 and still don't have the seat all the way back. I got a Crew Cab because of going snowboarding and wanting room for 3 buddies to ride with me. Which I did the other weekend and my buddy who is at least 6'2 sat behind me with no problems. But if I can fit a rear facing child seat in a small WRX, I'm sure it'll fit in a double cab. Not ideal, but it'll fit.

I just sold my '06 Outback which we bought as a kid car but didn't test the rear facing seat. Luckily for us my wife is only 5'3" so it could go behind her. My 6'1" friend tried to ride in the passenger seat with the a rear facing seat installed behind him and looked very uncomfortable. Some of it has to do with the shape of the back of the front seat some of it has to do with the shear size of these baby seats. The seat might fit fine in a double cab, I'm just suggesting the OP try it out before buying if kids are in his future.

I work at a chevy dealership.

Personally, I dont get the midsize truck market. I wouldn't go smaller than a 1500 silverado. Better in snow and for hundreds of other reasons..... INCLUDING....

SILVERADOS ARE CHEAPER - THERE ARE TONS OF REBATES ON THEM!

Stop it. MOST full size trucks are NOT having this problem. Stop spreading BS.

All I said was to check it out real good. I am NOT giving him any bullshit... I have the problem with mine so it has been proven to me. I did not tell him not to buy one. I don't care if most don't have the problem but out of seven owners I know with 2014 and 2015 Silverados and Sierra's 5 have the vibration problem at 65mph and 3 including mine even does it at 46mph so don't give me any shit......

My 14 is in the shop now for vibration, printed the tsb and brought it along with my other complaints. We'll see if they can do anything for it. The vibration is a common problem in the 14+, oil consumption is also still a relatively prevalent issue.

If one doesn't have need of a full size truck, a midsize is the way to go. You get the bed storage and decent cabin space. The tacoma if OP is still discussing has two benefits. Rock solid mechanical reliability (still has frame issues, the new 2016 no one knows yet), and wicked high re-sale. But you sacrifice crappy ride and performance. The GM midsize is better in all day to day operations and creature comforts which is why it won truck of the year, but the Tacoma is an excellent choice if you don't need the space or don't tow/haul much.

The full size Chevy/GMC are great. I wish I waited to purchase mine for heavier incentives. I paid $40k for a $48k V8 allstar LT2 Z71. I love the truck but have also purchased a duramax since. My truck does indeed have the vibration issue. Many instances of oil consumption with the new eco-tec as well. I disabled AFM and installed a catch can to hopefully lessen the risk of consumption or prevent it altogether.

Proof on the oil consumption issue? I have yet to see any complaints on oil consumption from the redesigned 5.3, or are you lump summing in the previous Gen?

Examples are plentiful. I'm also a member of silveradosierra and there are many complaints there, I'll post some links tomorrow. I personally know 2 people who had the ecotec 5.3 who were down 2 quarts over 5k miles for 3 separate intervals, both switched to an f150 though that isn't much better

Your story sounds VERY familiar, my previous truck was an extended cab S10 4X4. I put over 310,000 miles on the 4.3 with no major issues. It used not one drop of oil when I traded it in. I really loved this truck, so much so that I walked out of a few Dealerships when I thought they disrespected my truck.

With that being said I thought it was time to look into a new truck and the new Colorado seemed perfect. I test drove the tacoma and Colorado and there's just NO comparison, the Chevy just blows it away,I guess that's why it won truck of the year TWICE!

So I started pricing the Colorado and found out they just don't move much on the window price. The salesman said he could give me over 9,000 off on a Silverado ! He let me take the Colorado and Silverado on extensive road test, so I went down the exact same roads with each. Long story short the Colorado is a great HANDLING truck but as nice as it rides the Silverado might have the best Ride of ANY vehicle I've ever driven in.

Then I was thinking about the history of both, the updated Colorado being new and the Silverado being Chevy's flagship with a great dependability record. The sell over 500,000 Silverado's a year, the Colorado is just a fraction of that.

Also the Colorado didn't offer the Auto 4X4 ' Canyon does' and I travel a long ways to deer camp so it could come in handy!

So I pulled the trigger on the Silverado and LOVE IT!

Both are great trucks and far and away ahead of the outdated toyotas.

Yeah please post your examples, I call BS on your claim. A simple search on both forums don't produce these overwhelming claims of oil consumption on the new ecotec 5.3 or 6.2.

Call BS all you want fanboy. No sweat off my back. I disabled AFM and installed a catch can to hopefully prevent it from occurring, or at least prolonging its arrival. The consumption issue is not fixed, it may be less common but it is still a risk. I will find some examples when I have the time, but i'm not too concerned about proving anything to someone who dismisses things out of hand. it's how liberals think and I have no time for it.

DI only worsened the potential for the issue by allowing more carbon buildup on the valves which can enter the combustion chamber and score the cylinder walls creating excess blow by, and yes consumption.

As I said, I have two personal examples of 2014+ ecotec oil consumption issues, which is what prompted me to take steps against it in my own vehicle. But feel free to stick your head in the sand and ignore any advice or commentary contrary to your own poorly thought out beliefs. GM is notorious for screwing stuff up, as are most OEM's. GM decided with knowledge beforehand to put a HPFP in the LML which is only expected to survive 1,000 hours on US spec diesel, to think they do things perfectly is ridiculous. I bought the GM because in my opinion it is the best half ton available, and I like mine very much (except for the violent driveline shake above 70 mph). I also bought the duramax because I think it's the best choice for a 3/4 ton, but I don't fool myself in thinking that they are perfectly engineered vehicles. Aftermarket exists to rectify the shortfalls of OEM manufacturers.

Consumption isn't a guaranteed issue even on the 5.3 vortec, but it was a relatively common problem. A common enough problem to warrant changing things around to prevent it. It may indeed be less common now with the ecotec, but the risk is there. Take whatever risk you want with it, but for me $250 on a diablosport and $180 on a Conceptual polymer catch can was worth it to me. I have no consumption except the amount caught by the catch can in 24,000 miles.

Trolls typically make an abrasive comment in order to get a rise out of people. I was informing the OP of what he should keep an eye on should he decide to purchase a GM 1/2 ton. If that's what trolling is to you, cool. Keep your head in the sand, it must be nice living in a fantasy world. Also, I own one of these trucks, so trolling you would be the same as trolling myself, that's not an equation that adds up. You're overly defensive about a topic you obviously haven't spent much time learning about, I usually call that foolish...Enjoy

This is a thread about what model to buy. Take the oil discussion where it belongs.

2014 5.3L, 16,000 miles.

I change my oil at 5,000 mile intervals so I don't check my fluid levels in between. I haven't done the 15,000 mile change because I'm timing some other work. It will get changed next week.

My check oil light came on last night. That's 6,000 miles and the DIC shows 20% oil life left. Added 2 quarts and that got it to the bottom of the zone.
