Sea Foam - Do you Use It?

Used it on my 91 Jetta turbo diesel when I bought it with 150k miles on it. All our other vehicles we purchased new and don't see a need to use it on them.

I've resurrected the dead with that stuff. Works wonders in poorly maintained equipment. I also add it to help stabilize the fuel in my gas cans.

I was just thinking today that I should add some to my truck since I've been running E85 in it. Help lube the injectors and maybe keep the seals from drying out.

I tried it on a subaru.

melted the alloy.

maybe I should have left the little nuclear muffin of love alone.

for long term, I attack from the fuel side. Carbon is actually awesome, stripping it off is not.

the sickest thing we all have is the paper element oil filters.

I went stainless mesh in a billet, some kinda miracle going on there.

both my old subaru and truck have one from professional products.

for outside the engine, the worst ever gets "bomb's away" cleaner from a truck stop local, following instructions closely.

Don't buy a Subi. :)

True story tranks;

I always have a can in my truck, last spring came into the boat dock and a boat sitting on the trailer was barely running, old 2 cycle outboard with a 6 gal. tank. Mentioned Sea Foam, sold them the can I had and suggested half the can in the fuel tank.

The gunk that came out of that motor was unreal, 15 minutes it was running good. They were ecstatic that I had saved there fishing trip and a wasted 2 hour drive to the lake. Watched them blast to the far end of the lake to fish the weeds.

Has anybody used this in oil/crank case? It says 1 ounce per quart of oil for 100 to 300 miles before an oil change.

I've been running it in the oil of my Dodge Ram. Its got 168K miles and I figured it cant hurt to do a few oil changes with sea foam, I've been doing 500 to 1000 miles per change.

I have not opened up the motor to see if anything is cleaner yet. There was a little bit of build up when I changed the valve cover gaskets two years ago.

I just learned about this stuff now. So you put it in the oil right before you do an oil change? Any reason why you don't want to leave it in there longer?

Has anyone used this on the intake side? I'm wondering if "fogging" the TB would help clear up the deposits on the valves.

Sahls, I would put some in the fuel tank but you can also do a tb clean.

Rock, instructions on can say 100 to 300 miles before oil change and 1 to 1.5 ounces per quart of oil. You could leave it in longer I guess.

Search for sea foam lots of info on the site.

    • No engine digit "E" for 2019-2026.  Stop reading slop online     All 2026 V8s have functioning DFM.  Hardware and software.  5.3 and 6.2.  The L84 5.3 has "D" as the 8th digit of the VIN, the L87 6.2 has "L" as the 8th digit of the VIN.       If you want a factory DFM disabled 2019-2026, you'd have to find a used 2021 or 2022 chip shortage truck.  The vehicle build data will have a specific RPO code indicating its a factory disabled truck.  RPO code YK9 and only with the L84 5.3 engine.  These still have the hardware installed but are NOT functioning due to the COVID chip shortages that were ongoing.

    • I don't think so. 😏 Cars? Our experience will diverge there as well. I was buying cars with 200K (1970's) when I started and quite a few were pretty solid cars. (My early stuff was 1964 to 1968)  Some stinkers but not the dismal picture painted above. Now that said, yes, a dealer wouldn't talk to you if your car had more than 60K on the clock and lot cars were 60K or less except the back row where 100-120K was the auction bought for dirt for us poor losers. Kids in my county were not allowed to wear long pants if they couldn't rebuild and repair every part of that beast.    I will agree that many parts are now better. Alternators and charging systems are an envy. But I replaced few water pumps or power steering pumps then. Rebuilt carburetors but replaced few. Mufflers are another place of OEM improvement. Stainless? We didn't have no stink'n stainless.    As long as humans are in charge of governance this $$$$ situation will not improve.    The purchasing power of a dollar in 1955 is significantly higher than in 2025, meaning that a dollar could buy more goods and services in 1955 compared to 2025 due to inflation over the years. For example, what you could buy for $1 in 1955 would require approximately $10.50 in 2025.  Calculator.net inflationtool.com   Comparison of Purchasing Power: 1955 vs 2025 The purchasing power of a dollar has changed significantly from 1955 to 2025 due to inflation. Below is a breakdown of how much more money is needed in 2025 to match the buying power of a dollar in 1955. Purchasing Power Overview Year Equivalent Value of $1 in 1955 1955 $1.00 2025 $10.50 Key Points Inflation Impact: The value of money decreases over time due to inflation, meaning that the same amount of money buys fewer goods and services in the future. Example of Inflation: What could be purchased for $1 in 1955 would require approximately $10.50 in 2025. This illustrates how inflation has eroded the purchasing power of the dollar over the decades. Understanding these changes in purchasing power is crucial for financial planning and assessing economic conditions over time.  Wikipedia Calculator.net
    • The thermometer has been in my wife's 2008 envoy, my sons 2016 chevy, my friends 2020 1500 silverado all showing cooler readings. It's not the guage.
    • Have a question concerning trim levels. Ive not bought a new vehicle since 2006, and I have decided on a 2500 gmc pro or silverado custom. For anyone that has one of these 2 trim levels have you regretted not stepping up to the LT or SLE. I look at things as the more electronics the more problems to arise. I love the look of the old school gauges on the dash as well. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
