2006 silverado hour meter question

Recommended Posts

I bought a 2006 chevy silverado 1500 4x4 crew cab last friday. It had been traded in by the original owner, it has 103k miles. On my way home i started messing with the dash and found that the hour meter only had around 220 hours. Is this something that can be reset or why would it be this low?

Thanks in advance!!

That works out to an average of about 468 miles per hour ...

The mileage can be re-set by the dealer when repaired ... so can the hour meter ... (after-market repair companies can also do it (E-Bay ...))

Some things not right

Repaired odometers are required to have a sticker placed in the door jamb (in some states) and sometimes noted on the title

Your dealer repair record may give you a clue - the dealer is NOT allowed to hide the trucks service records ...

Any dealer can run your VIN and give you the service record print out (if they like you)

Car Fax can help (sometimes)

They gave me an equifax auto check that didn't indicate any discrepancies. I didn't receive anything else that may give me any insight into it.

Hour meters are known to reset on the GMT 800's.

^^^ This, my last truck and current truck had same problem. Hourmeter would randomly reset engine hours.

I have an 06 that I bought new. So far the hour meter hasn't reset & I hope it never does. It's at almost 4000 hrs now & 280,000km. I like keeping records of all those when I do oil changes etc.

Truck is mostly highway driven & its life average speed is just over 70 km/h.
